I had the same issue,  it turned out to be a blocked sphinctor odi.   I had two ERCP's to open it.   I havent had a problem since.  It is dangerous  it blocks poisons in the body.  My suggestion is when you are in an episode of the pain, go to the ER.  my doctor blew me off when i went after it was over.     The third episode was the worst, felt like i was dying.  Mine was caused by stones lrft behind after my gall bladder was removed.  Hope this helps.
