Yes I was diagnosed with a liver hemangioma eight years ago. In 2011 it started to grow and after my last pregnancy In 2009 One of the spots became so large that in October 2012 I had 34 percent of my liver removed with the Hemangioma. I still have several other spots of my liver. I also had my gallbladder removed. for the past few months I have been experiencing Light headiness no nausea just the feeling that I am about to past out. I can be laying, sitting or standing. This last week I have been getting lightheaded at 4 or 5 times a day. I have an Doctors appt. on Monday.

Alright! Well to say the least this is no doubt the happiest moment of my internet surfing career thus far!! First question, I am a dude (32)......it seems most of you are women?!?! Very hard to tell through text. I have read that it is possible for men to get these fun sacks as well?? My symptoms (I hate when people complain, and I am not a complainer so bear with me.) Slight fatigue, uncomfortable bloating under right rib cage, pinches sometimes nothing serious. My pant size has gone up a couple notches and I have not gained any weight?!?!I Get the runs now and again and do get slightly dizzy at times. I do not get nausea?!?! And I have not really lost my appetite?!?! These symptoms have not kept me from my life, I have a full time job as a commercial diver, play hockey, have a wife and two small kids, very active but have slowed down a bit with all this stuff, this diagnosis is tough and sometimes I wonder if all the waiting, wondering and worrying is making me tired, or the Hemangioma? I had Giardia (Beaver Fever) about six months ago. After I beat the parasite I continued to get the runs. which led to an abdominal ultrasound. At which point they discovered four cysts. The biggest being 5cm and the rest around 1-2cm. I got the results back from this test and thought my life was over......as Im sure some of you felt LOL. I was sent for a CT scan at which point they gave me two options Cancer (Somewhere) or hemangioma.....again thought I was done. I just recieved this info today. My Doc Rocks, he was certainly leaning in the direction of Hemangioma when I talked to him tonight, and assured that this upcoming test (something to do with radioactive drinks) was simply to rule out any cancer c**p. He is also sending me to see a liver specialist and has been very understanding of my symptoms since they started (Im sorry to hear of all the people who have been having trouble with their doctors, it certainly makes me appreciate mine!) All your comments and posts have brought me so much relief and I just wanna thank everyone!

@watered8down - I'm 36 and a dude as well. I've had my 2 giant hemangiomas since 2008, but in the last few months, they have started creating pain, also I was working hard to lose wait and my midsection never shrunk and if I looked down towards my toes the curve of my abdomen was not symmetrical, so I had a US in May and then CT last week. Confirmed growth since the CT in 2008 to now being roughly: 14x18x18 and the other being 10x11x11. Going to USC to see a liver surgeon to talk about next steps. I'm hopeful for some type of radiological intervention therapy rather than resection. I was told to lay off any contact sports. :) If these gems really are just clusters of blood vessels, a little math tells me I have a little over 3liters of blood just in my hemangiomas. Thinking I should donate some. :)

Yeah I guess they are just more or less blood suitcases at this point, lol! So I am assuming that yours were a fair size when they found them? Wow thats big man! They are still in the "ruling out cancer stage" here. I have read every post on this site about it and I'm very sure that it is hemangioma and my doc seems to think so too. Did they make you go through all these tests too? Quitting hockey might be tough.......but I guess if it is going to possibly kill me then it will have to go. What other symptoms you living with besides the pain?

Wouldn't you love to give your doctor your symptoms for a few days and then see if Haemangiomas don't cause any symptoms. I have been diagnosed with a 2cm Haemangioma, certainly not as big as some of you have mentioned. I also have a single Gallstone. A surgeon recently told me that my Gallstone wouldn't be causing the pain I experience and I believe him. I think it's the Haemangioma and reading this post almost certainly confirms that. My symptoms were originally all Neurological, dizziness, lightheadedness. Then I started to experience bloating and a slight pain just under right rib cage. I have recently started to experience shortness of breath as well as a strange occurrence where I can be sitting talking to someone and I start to feel extreme lightheadedness where if I continue to talk I would probably pass out. I know this sounds absolutely ridiculous, but my problem is 100% digestion related. On hot days I just feel off, no matter how much water i drink. Constantly eating seems to help. A naturopath had me on anti microbial meds for a while until I finally came to my senses and realised the symptoms were increased by taking the meds. She believed it was either Candida overgrowth or SIBO, which apparently causes similar symptoms to what we experience. Let me just suggest that you don't all rush out and check if you have Candida overgrowth or SIBO, most doctors believe this is very rare, even though most naturopaths will have you believing you're infested with parasites in a matter of minutes of entering their consultation room.

I'm a fit 32 year old male, I'm slim, about 4kg under ideal weight(though I've always been this weight). I have been trying to cut out anything processed, such as wheat or refined sugar, which seems to help (though my symptoms never really go away so who knows). BTW, I'm completely clear on ALL tests.

Did your migraines go away? I got a headache in July 2011 that did not go away until I finally started getting treated for migraines in April 2012. I now take migraine meds daily. I have phantom smells and tastes. In January 2013, I was diagnosed with an 11 cm liver hemangioma. I am having surgery next month because I cannot keep food down. I am hoping maybe all of this is related?

@eezbayer My understanding is that hemangiomas are an anatomical abnormality and don't cause problems in an of themselves. When hemangiomas cause problems, its because of their location and the effect their position has on other organs and/or functions. I met with a surgeon and he'd like to do a laparotomy with a resection of the entire left lobe which has been consumed and is fully intermingled with the hemnangioma. A CT scan with contrast will confirm the exact location and the relationship of your hemangioma to the other abdominal organs, facilities. That may shed some more light.

Anywhoo, I met with a surgeon who is ready to take it out via laparatomy. I'm going for a 2nd opinion to make sure that I can't find someone to do it laproscopically.

Years ago, when my doctor, after some tests, told me that what I had was a non-malignant Liver hemangioma, I do remember him telling me NEVER let a surgeon operate on my liver, and he used my name to emphasize what he was telling me. I always remember that. That doctor has passed away, but, I had, and still have, much respect for him. My present doctor also told me that hemangiomas do not grow and it is not malignant so leave it alone. Sometimes, I may have digestive problems and I know food is processed thru the liver, so I try to eat light as I can, when I don't, I do feel heaviness in that area.

I have been chronically sick for 4 years now - right sided pain from behind my right breast down under my right rib cage and round the right side of my waist.  On my waist area, I feel like someone has punched me really hard (crippling pain), and I can feel that this pain goes up to my right breast (exactly the full area of the liver) (it is just protected by the ribs, but makes me sick and feels itchy, sickening pain that feels like someone is giving all my right sided organs a chinese burn.  In the early stages, it was so severe, my body felt like it was going into shock and i had severe heartburn, eusophical problems (I know its not the right spelling), all over lymph and fibromalgia I also get the poor circ, sore feet/ankles, siezed muscles in legs (all down the right side which causes further back probs).  I get really itchy, and started bruising really easy..... Had all the tests in the world and found a heamangioma on my liver ... its 13mm...the doctors swear black and blue this cant be causing it.  until now, I thought it was my bowel, but recently I got really bad, and just a small amount (5 minutes of trying to jog), I am crippled in pain and can bearly walk or bend over for days - like severe back pain, but more in waist, liver, pelvis, .... I started milk thistle 3x a day, and found a seed called chia seeds, which is a super food with omegas, all kinds of minerals, and studies have shown improvement in fatty liver and heart probs ...its also a good fibre and prebiotic, so if you can tolerate it, it is good for the colon too.....I havent been able to eat fibre in ages, and I have finally found this seed, which i can tollerate....i also started eating dryed Goji berries..no added preservatives or additives .  in 3 days, i feel like the "inflamed liver" has  gone down, along with a lot of my muscle problems, and although I can still feel a tenderness in my liver, I would say I have gone from 8/10 all day pain every day for the past year to 5-6/10 in 3 days, so i am going to keep on this regime...going back to my gastro doct to discuss checking out my liver for fatty liver??....also to discussed whether I should get another pill cam or colonoscopy/endosc.

Yes! My pain radiates to the left side! The doc felt a mass in my lower right abdomen but when she pressed there the pain was in my left rib cage. I have lost over 100 lbs with probably 70 of that since Aug. 2012. I've had my gallbladder removed (no stones but HIDA showed only functioned at 14%) and now I wish I hadn't. 2 weeks post op and I'm so much worse it's unbelievable! I can't even shower by myself anymore for fear that I'll pass out! Constant pain. Dizziness, nausea, never hungry and when I do force myself to eat I can only get about 5 bites before I'm so stuffed I get sick.

CT Scan showed 2 hemangiomas and ultrasound found the same. I am going to a GI Specialist that is going to preform an EUS Thursday to see if he can find out what's wrong. I can't function anymore. I'm a 36 year old mother of two very active kids and this has to go away!

I have had a burning on my upper right side of my abdomen; had an ultrasound last week; had a MRI today; waiting to hear more tomorrow. Originally thought to be gall stones; unfortunately, not the case. Will post when I have more of a diagnosis

Hi, I've been having upper abdominal pain for a few weeks. Can a hemangioma cause the kind of gastric pain that I'm experiencing? The pain gets worse after eating.

Does anyone know of any non surgical treatment options to remove or shrink a hemangioma?

Thats how mine started. Then in 2009 I complained to my dr that there was still something not right. I know my body. More blood work and hepatitis A-B-C done as they dont do it as a regular test. 3 weeks later I was informed that I had hep c. After a biopsy was informed that I had stage 4 cirrohsis because of the hepatitis, as it inflames the liver and that for it to be that far along I have had it for 30 years+. Which seems very strange as 30 years ago is when I started having children. So if they havent done a hepatitis test, please ask for one if they are at a crossroads an cant think of what might be wrong. As there arent any symptoms until its to late normally. But I survived the interferon/ribivirin 48 week treatment and am now healing.
