Everybody knows the old wives’ tale about the bottle of warm water and pain relief but no one knew what was happening that actually revealed the pain. A new study reveals exactly this.
It was previously thought that the heat only masks the pain by creating placebo effect due to warmness but the study showed that water heated over 40C (104F) and applied at the sight of pain switched on heat receptors and as a reaction switched off pain receptors.
This is a very important finding as it may lead to a pain treatment without the negative drugs’ effects.
When the heat receptors are activated, receptors that sense the pain are being shut down but the only problem (for the time being) is that this pain relief is just temporary.
