First allow me to say that I AM NOT a Nurse or Doctor so watch out on advice you take. Each person will be different in withdrawls from whatever their choice of drug is. My advice is to seek  a Drs or hospitals advice and help in coming off narcotics safely. I know in every city their are places like Mental help hospitals and rehabs that will take you off them safely. But if You really want to do it at home you could take one less each couple of days given your body proper time to withdrawl off them. But you need to treat the mental reason why you take them as well. For some pain is going to be in your life and you along with a proper doctor you are comfortable with can set up something to help. Doctors are not against us they are trying to help but if you dont tell them the whole truth on our meds and what is going on with you they cant help you. It is hard this is my fourth time coming off them and It is now2 days and i have only taking one 5 mg pill. anxiety is horrid, stomach hurts some but headache is gewtting better. MY biggest recommendation is to seek professional help is getting off them for good. As for the Mrs with a hubby on them my advice is to seek out the doctor who prescribed them and talk to him about him coming off them safely.. You both are in my prayers. Oh withdrawls do get to a point that you may not be able to keep a accurate log on here..just know its tough.its toughest thing i have dealt with but pain is pain I guess... Oh I am a cancer patient.. Bless All.. K

Hi all well in my 5th day of withdrawal almost cold turkey. I was noot able to do a day to day though my intentions was to do so to let all i know what I was going thru. I had to give in about my 39 hour and take at least a 5my lortab to ease me up some. it was not enough to really take my pain away nor was it enough to get a buzz but enough to calm down all that was going on but only in the last 5 days that was all that has been taking along with tylenol and Benydryl. I normally take ativan for anxiety and if u have anything for anxiety u will need it cause it almost feels like your chest is cold at times or heavy or u feel smothered. Thheir has been some out of control bowel movements as my system flushed itself. for you stomach. I personaly tried to eating thing but it was to much. i was not really hungry and seemed to make me feel worse but i did keep something in my stomach like some milk, chocolate milk or milk shake. Chocolate is also good on withdrawals just not to much. I have been taking my pain meds for 22 years now this is the first true time in my mind i have been so determined to deal with my pain but not sure this will last. I want to be off them at this point in my life.. I suggest for anyone going to do this to seek medical attention wether a licensed Doctor or a rehab place it  really is so much better on u to be lowered doses slowly to let ur body adjust slowly to being off them. One thing I noticed my chest is not so smothered at this point and I feel like I just woke up and what I mean i feel like now when on them it just made me numb and I did not have to feel.. now I was evening singing to myself again. Please dont give up.. go thru a doctor or medical place to come down off them but if you are determined at home..it helps to have someone to hang out with you, pprefewrable someone who is not doing drugs hee hee.. and have them just sit and talk.. keeping your mind and body busy helps so much well my email is posted to any who wish to ask me anything..

For the last seven years ive been struggling with opiate addiction. I started with percocets and of course graduated to oxycontin for my stomach pain, and the high. After four years of hell, i lost my house, my relationship and had to fight for two years for my children. Its then that i started the methadone treatment, BIG MISTAKE. After three years of being on methadone i had enough. I was sick of being in a fog all the time. In hindsite, i now see that i only traded my addiction from one substance to another. I should of just went cold turkey, but i didnt. Now, seven years later, i realized that i have lost those years, its quite depressing.

Im on day 12 getting off methadone, and i still feel like sh*t. Its mostly pyschological now but i still cant sleep and my stomach is a mess. I know that taking a pill would be so easy but thats exactly what i need to break. I guess if you truly want to be substance free then you will succeed. You will, unfortunately, need to break all ties with your past life. Let those go who dont share your interests. Ive lost a lot of friends, and hurt many family members. While on pills and methadone i noticed that it was almost impossible to create a bond with anyone. Im ready for my life to be back, but i know it will never be the same. Good luck to everyone that is trying to get clean.

I hope all the best, Anonymous

Hi all! Was on methadone, vicodin, oxy, tramadol u name it. Went to the doc and got Clonidine for nausea, Propantheline for that shitty awful feeling u get in your stomach, Methocarbamol to chill me out, and finally Quetiapine to sleep. I think those are all the generic names but look em up. All non narcotic and non addictive. I'm on day 2 and I feel WAY better with these meds than I ever have when going cold turkey. Good luck to us all!

This is to you and ALL of the people on this post. SUBOXONE. I was on perc 30's having at least 3 a day for about 5 months got off them for 2 months and went back on for 4. Im taking SUBOXONE and it is a miracle. It completely knocks out all withdrawal sypmtoms. Only rehab docs can prescribe it but ask your doctor about it. Its a strip u put under your tongue and you only need to take it for 3 or 4 days and you won't feel any withdrawals. In my experience if you want to get off them, SUBOXONE is the way to go. It seriously works and helps tremendously. I got a couple from people i know cause i didnt want anyone to know but it works believe me.

I think the hardest just about trying to quit, is physically having them. Stopping cold turkey is probably much easier because truth is, actually physically having them, your more tempted to taking them. I know from experience that your mind makes excuses, sayiin ok taking a extra one just once won't hurt, but it does.. is easier and your more likely to quit if you don't have then at all....

It's been 8 almost 9 days clean for me and I'm also diagnosed anxious and depressed prior to my addiction could this be why I'm still too sick to get out of bed? Most people on the site say after 5 days you start feeling human but I feel like I have no energy, arm and leg cramps, chills and sweats, rls, no energy or appetite.
I do admit its gotten better but I still can't sleep without over te counter sleep meds.. Will I be okay? on web md it said its easier to seizure from stoping cold turkey I hope after this long I will soon get relief

I would love to get off these drugs (Opana, Norco, Fentanyl patch), I DO NOT ABUSE them at all, I don't even take close to my prescribed dose.  I take them for pain due to L5S1 herniation and pain due to Multiple Sclerosis.  I've been taking some form of combination for close to 15 years now,  but would love to get pain relief from non addicting meds, but nothing else works even close to narcotic pain preparations.  I've tried Neurontin (horrrible), Elavil (gets me too tired), Gabapentin (nothing), Oxcarbenzaprine (nothning), and just about every other non narcotic pain med.  Thank God I have a neurologist that listens to me, and knows I know what is best for my relief, but I know one day he will not be there anymore.  I have taken 1 day holidays when the pain was not too bad, but it usually results in waking up with restless legs, a feel of electric shock through my body, sweating, anxiety, and cramps, I cannot imagine going through that for weeks and having to go to work at he same time.

To anyone using without having a physical condition making it necessary. Most of us know the withdrawals very well. Instead of weening yourself down try this. Its 3 days on 3 days off. If you can go without doing anything for 3 days you can do this. After 3 days u can go back to using as long as you don't do 3 days in a row. And also as horrible as it is make yourself do physical things. It will help your mind to do something physical that you actually like to do. Its hard but it helps the mental and physical addiction.
