I've tried to get a local tri coach here to trade me tri coaching for business/life coaching. She's just started her practice, so I was guessing she'd be interested.
The fact that she's neither called me back nor replied to my e-mail tells me either a) she's not interested or b) she could really use a coach.
Either way, it's fully my intent to find a coach. I know how much the other coaching I've had has helped me personally so I'm sure it'll be just as good in this arena.

I joined a local running club about a year and a half ago, and coaching "comes with" it. Not meaning to brag or anything, but my 5K PR has gone from 24:24 to 19:42 since I started running with the club. Joining the club (and training with the coach) was hands-down the best decision I ever made regarding running, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

I am self coached with input from people here and from guys I run with. I don't think I will ever get good enough to compete for 1st place consistently around here so I have no desire to try any other coaching.

Good post but everything depends on ypur current level. A lot of people believes they're aware and finally they are not.

I've posted this time and time again. If your half serious about your running
GET A COACH.

If a coach improves a top marathon runner's time by, say a minute, its enough to upset international rankings!!!
But this is nothing compared to what happens when the average every-day runner get similar advice (note I did not say the same advice)
I have seen it happen many times, INDIVIDUAL programing and advice can improve the average runner who has a commitment. A clear plan as to what goals are to be achieved, weekly, monthly a year, 5 years. Basic form, adjustments to training, variation to exercise routine etc. and
BANG!!! 20minutes of the average runners time.
Cobbling together bits of advice from hear and there will never be as good as an INDIVIDUAL program, tailored to you.

1. I have listened to other skaters, waded throught the facts, opinions and form my own

2. i have and getting ready for yet another weekend seminar from a professional that will critique form, stride, cadence and all other kinds of cr@p for me

3. i take a lot out of the forums too.

self-coached and actually improved when I stopped running with a club and a coach. Would definitely consider a coach that works specifically with me.

I've gotten a lot of help from forum members. That's how I found RF. My base training I had for my first year and conditioning all relied on the schedules JRJO made for me and his excellent advise.

RB helps me a lot, creating schedules and helping me focus on good diet. He's great with the technical side of the training and is very knowledgeable about total body health...the impact running has on the body and how to release stress, treat injuries...it's been a great help.

My yoga practice is going to compliment the advice and help I get quite nicely. Yoga helps me to focus and strengthens my whole body and I'm learning to pin point areas that are weak...like my back isn't strong at all.

PH, would you try online coaching? I used CoachCraig when things were a bit more settled and was really impressed. I'd go back to his coaching services again once everything settled down for me again.

i suggest joining a club. if you feel you don't get enough personal attention, you can hire someone just for you, but the club experience goes beyond just access to a coach.

Pretty much self coached. I have been to some running seminars but to be honest they just rehashed what you see in one form or another in most running books.

That being said, if I was after some specific goals other than just a general runner, i.e. Olympic qualifying, really trying to reach my highest running potential, etc. I probably would consider a coach.

For those of you who have used a coach in the past, how much does it typically cost? Just curious.
