I had it done and the shot felt like a hair being pulled out. The worst part was the burning smell but that was nothing. I think having a tooth filled is worse that this. I had it done on Friday and on Saturday night I did a camp out with my sons. I did use ice (frozen peas) for a total of 4 hours give or take. I didn't take any pain meds except for tylenol. I am bruised a bit and all I can say is get a specialist. It makes a world of difference.

I am currently at 6 days post-op. The surgery itself was done by a specialist and he made two incisions. Worst part was a little sting from the anesthesia and the cold sterilization stuff they wiped on...lol. Otherwise, just a little discomfort here and there. Post-op I drove home and sat on the couch with my feet up for the next two days (lots of football to watch!). I regularly took extra strength Tylenol, but rarely used ice (peas)...really had no issue with swelling.

I have worn boxers my whole life (38 now) and wearing briefs was a little weird, but it made a HUGE difference. I wore briefs for 5 days for support. Soreness around the stitches is all but gone and just have occasional discomfort, but nothing I would call 'painful'.

All in all, not a really big deal...looking forward to a FULL recovery!

Got snipped 6 days ago. I was off my feet but didn't ice. Did some physical labor yesterday and I"m seriously hurting now...also my sack/penis has some black and blue. The regrowth of the hair on the sack feels like little bugs biting you. The procedure itself was cake...the first few days not bad. But I'm hoping things feel better tomorow. I described my symptoms, my back ache (which feels connected), etc. She said it sounded like p.m.s.. We got a laugh out of that.

I had my vasectomy on Friday, November 6th, 2009. I chose a female urologist and, as I'd hoped, she was very gentle and made me feel very at ease. The injections to numb my testicles were only mildly painful and the procedure thereafter was not uncomfortable at all. Post-procedure was pretty much as expected. . . occasional pain for which I took one Lortab three times the day of surgery and iced with frozen peas on and off all day. Day 2 I took Lortab once in the morning and again before bed and haven't taken any sice. The worst part was aching as if I'd been lightly kicked. The suture to the single incision fell out about four days after surgery and the wound is healing up nicely. I still have mild discomfort in my testicles, more on the right than the left, but this discomfort is to be expected and is very tolerable. I've used ES Tylenol a few times since Sunday but haven't really required it much. My advice? Consult with a few urologists before you make your decision and choose the one you're most comfortable with and follow your post-op instructions to the letter.

This is the fourth day post surgery for me, as it is Monday afternoon and surgery was down on a Thursday afternoon. It was literally painless, only thing I felt was the injection for the local anesthesia. I had a no-scapel technique and it was over in about 30-45mins. I did take two 10mg valium 30 min prior to relieve a bit of the anxiety. I had to ask my urologist, "wow, is it over already". I had my wife drive me home and followed the advice and kicked my feet up with some crushed ice in two sandwich bags wrapped in paper towels and my my mantool (remote). For the first two days, pretty much ice on and ice off for 20mins each. I am a black male, and didn't have any noticeable discoloration and/or swelling, but the usual discomfort as expected from a small incision. The only real discomfort came as I let the 'gentlemen' hang around without the support. Just keep the support and ice on as advised and you should do great. Hopefully, by the end of the week, everything should be back to normal.

5 days post opp. Same as pretty much everyone else. Not that big of a deal. I actually had no bruising, no incision issues, and very little swelling. When I was laying down and icing I didn't feel anything. When I got up and moved is when the soreness was apparent. I've Iced everyday and have been out and about making sure to wear my supporter (more pain when they dangle). Took no meds except Tylenol (mostly for headaches, probably due to staring at a laptop for 3 days), was prescribed pain killers but didn't need them. Beware of fake posts, like my balls are huge and I'm in constant pain...If that were the case I'd expect a better explanation and I'd expect they wouldn't be worried about posting on internet blogs. I'm expecting the soreness to slowly go away from here on out. BTW does anyone know why they say 20 on 20 off, or 20 per hour icing? Why not ice the entire time? Never got around to asking the Doc.

I am 6 days into it and I think it hurts worse than most people let on. While the surgery wasn't too painful, I certainly felt when they cut the tube(s), it felt like a guitar string just snapped that was hooked clear up into my guts. Then to smell the smoke from burning flesh from inside my scrotum as the doctor cauterized the tubes with a soldering iron, I felt like I was on a Hannibal movie being fed my own brains!

I have been very sore and in pain from day one. Now nearly a week into it I am on the net trying to "re-read" these posts on what to expect. I am bruised quite swollen and even with a support I am hurting pretty bad. I cannot see how that other guy went back to the gym and lifted weights.

Since there are no real clear answers on how bad it should hurt I do not know if I should head back to the doctors office or not.

I burned through the prescribed 15 Loratab pills in the first 3 or 4 days. Since even with the Loratab I couldn't sleep, I added Benadryl to help "knock me out" so I wouldn't feel the pain! Dangerous, I know but I was hurting and tired and not making the best decisions.

It's not just going back to work that is hard. Sleeping is very tough since I can't get comfortable. After wearing a Jock-Strap all day everyday I can't wait to get home and lay down. Anyway even I lay down it seems "they" hang down one direction or another. After propping all our pillows in my crotch while laying on my side for the last few days even my wife is not as nice about things as she could be.

I honestly have to wonder if I am just a little more wussy than other guys or does "no brain - no pain" apply here? Most my brothers-in-law have had the procedure and claim it was not too bad. Two of my good friends also thought it was worth it and one said, "it's the best".

So here I sit in pain wondering how long this will last, should I go back in to the Doc or not, will I ever feel good again? And Sex is definitely the LAST thing on my mind.

I am 6 days post op and friends who had this done said I would be fine in 3-4 days. They were very wrong, this hurts like a dull toothache that wont go away. It was fine the day of the procedure and the next day. On the third day, my left one was considerably swollen. I wonder like the other guy on here if I'm just a wussy, but I have cut my thumb off and had it sewn back on, and to me that didn't hurt as bad. Maybe because I got better painkillers then, I only got ibuprofen for this. I think I'll give it two more days, and if it doesn't feel better by then, I'll call the doctors office. At least on here I can see I'm not the only one who had this much pain

I hadmine a little over 3 weeks ago. Luckily, we had some blizzards come through that week and I got to watch the wife shovel!! Had the procedure on a Friday, back at work on Monday. They gave me 20 percocets which I took over the weekend and a few over the next 2 weeks. The surgery itself wasn't bad, but he had to keep giving me the lidocaine. The needles were uncomfortable - just not used to being injected in the sack. Felt a lot of tugging in my abdomen and inside while he was pulling the vas out. Pain would not adequately describe it as it was more of an uncomfortable sensation between your guts being tugged and some sharp pains here and there. I had brought along a squeeze ball as I have a fear of surgery. The doc also started to show me all the stuff he was going to use and I told him to skip the intro and get to the show. All in all, about 40 minutes. Worst pain I had over the next few days was when I would shower without the jock and gravity got hold of my boys. First 2 showers, I kept the jock on for this reason. Peas and percocets were my safety net along with keeping my 3 year old away from my groin as they seem to have a homing device. Had a little swelling and bruising the first few days, but that was about it. Took it very easy....

Anyway- with regards to the gym/exersize - Ran for the first time last week and rode a stationary bike for a few mile - not bad. Back at it this week. Lifting light and no issues that a little ibuprofen can't fix - its more gravity at this point and getting everything back to where it should be. DO NOT take IB right after the surgery as its a blood thinner and could cause bleeding... acetamenophen if they didn't give you anything stronger. Everything is working great.

Had mine 4 days ago. Procedure was nothing. Only a small amount of pain from the anaesthesia needle. First day was fine. Took it really easy, iced 20/20, set the kids away overnight, and attached myself to my laptop. Day 2, mild to moderate pain in left testicle and above, under diaphragm. Day 3, more pain, still took it easy, but walking was painful. Day 4, more pain, now both testicles are very tender, and both sides of diaphragm hurt. Only way to avoid pain is to sit with my feet up or lie down. Starting to get a little bored. This isn't horrible, but not as insignificant as I had expected (and hoped). It seems that there is a wide range of post-operative stories, and those who experience the back-to-work-and-life-and-kids-and-everything-in-two-days vasectomy should count themselves lucky.

I have just had my Vasectomy on Monday 22nd March. Unfortunatley for me I was able to feel every bit of the operation, including the stitching up afterwards! I did tell my surgeon that I would require more anesthesia due to me having a condition where I have developed a high "tolerance" to anesthestics and other prescription drugs. But he didn't seem to listen to me and just carried on regardless telling me that "it will be ok, the anesthetic will kick in shortly" even when he did the scratch test to see if i was numb I said yes I can feel it! When the needle went into my testicles I nearly shot off the operating table...... TWICE!
So for the next 15 or so minutes i felt every excruciating cut, tug, pull and snip.
Its now 2 full days after the procedure and I am in a fair amount of discomfort. I was not sent home with any pain killers and i have not tried the ice treatment yet (Basically as I didn't know)
It hurts to walk around and hurts walking upstairs. My wife is pretty understanding and wont let me do much but I am bored Sh!tless just sitting around doing nothing!
I hope that things improve quickly and I can get back to some sort of normality! This is just my experience and wouldn't like it to influence anyones decision!
