i suggest *most* people who post on here have had negative experiences (bar some decent posters above).

in life, you really only hear about the bad cases, so they tend to be prevalent on here.

99% of the time things go great. so, you can assume that of these 100 or so posts, there are about 9900 other males who have NOT posted on here as their procedures have gone well. why would they bother to post when it was all champagne and roses?

a vasectomy in the case of pretty much every male will go well with no complications, with a few minor odd cases here and there. and that's a fact that cannot be denied!

Thanks guys

My doc must have been the "butcher of Darwin"

Op was very painful. Like getting kicked in the nads twice.

Silly me rode a motorbike home after the 15 minute procedure and had sex that nite.

Six days later and after finally giving in and buying some undies, I'm still "uncomfortable" with pain to my right nut and still some bruising.

My advice is to lay out for a few days, ice pack them and wear underpants. I reckon my pain is from gravity.

I am exactly 2 days post op and am happy (knock wood) to report that this was simple and relatively painless. The most "painful" (quotes because in the world of pain, quite trivial) were the minor stick for the local and ripping off the adhesive that helped ground the cauterizing tool. From "lets go" to "all done" was less than twenty minutes. There definitely was some pressure on the testicles during the procedure and a dull ache that has been abating regularly since it was worst right after prociedure. If recovery continues at this pace, i expect to be back to normal within 1 week of procedure.

Never had the swelling or bruising others describe and right now just have a couple of small stiches at the wound site. I walked around a bit right after the procedure (I live in NYC, hard not too walk) but rested and iced that night had pretty normal weekend with kids on Sat and Sun.

If you are ready to do it (e.g. permanent sterilization) go for it--its simple.

It's October 2010. I had my no-scalpel vasectomy 17 days ago. As prescribed I tool a valium before the procedure to mellow me out. Wow, that stuff really does mellow you out. I was awake for the procedure and told to expect the anesthesia injection to hurt.

It did. Like a bee sting for about 5 seconds.
I think I was more concerned about getting a shot in my scrotum than I was about the shot itself.

After that, I felt no pain, though the doc reminded me repeatedly that if I felt anything like pain, to tell him. I felt some modest 'pulling' and 'tugging' but nothing uncomfortable after the anesthesia kicked in. It really helps! You don't much know anything is going on. He later gave a second injection when he switched sides, but I didn't feel that at all.

It was odd afterward, as I was able to get up just fine, put on the jock strap and get dressed and walk out. No gurney or Life Flight chopper back to the house. I walked out to the van and my wife drove me home.

I stayed off my feet that Friday, with frozen peas off and on my crotch and web access to keep me distracted. Saturday I mostly stayed off my feet but got up around the house just a bit more. Sunday I went outside a bit, including going to church, and was back to work Monday. I used jock straps the first week, gradually weening myself off of them. After the first day the gauze came off. Be sure to have additional gauze on hand -- and DON'T use an adhesive bandage unless you love pain. The jock holds the gauze in place just fine. Also, get 3-4 jock straps: They'll need to be washed after each day's use, and two isn't enough. I was advised to get them from a sports store as retailers tend to sell less comfortable jock straps.

I still have some dull pain in my scrotum and even a bit higher - just below my belly button. But I'm not taking pain killers for it at all. It's mild, but 'there.' Heavy lifting doesn't seem to aggravate that area at all. I think it's just some residual pain. If it's still there after a month, then I'll call the doctor.

I'm glad I did this. It wasn't nearly as bad as I though -- and I didn't really think it would be real bad in the first place. Certainly better than "tubal litigation" - I hate fallopian lawsuits, don't you?

well i just had mine done 3 days ago no problems at all. doctor make two incisions ripped the bits out and all good. minimal swelling. no pain at all.

anyone who says it hurts needs to man up and grow a set, as this is a simple procedure. seriously, for anyone reading this, with a few expections, it goes well for 99% of men, and for the others they whinge and cry on here like babies. what do have not heard is the other 99% for whom it has gone well, like stiching up a cut after a fall. so many whingers on here it's totally pathetic

looking forward to the test in 4 weeks time, then we can get stuck back into it.

This is brutal post op experience. It's well worth it though, but don't listen to the "no pain" talk. I was way too active after the surgery and I am paying the price. No excerise or sex for at least 2 weeks, no kidding. I am 4 months past my surgery and just now losing the dull pain in my testes. Do it brother, but take it easy !

Question? I'm 24 post op and have this strange feeling on the right side (side that hurt the most during procedure). There is something going on that feels like air bubbles moving from the scrotum to the intestines when I move. It has subsided some since yesterday but still there. Also, I can feel something (maybe the vas) on the right side move when I sit/stand. Is this normal and will it subside?

Thanks

I am 32 years old and have 4 children. My wife and I decided for me to have a vasectomy because no more children are in our future. I had it last Friday, today is Thursday. I had no pain after the procedure for a few days. I felt great the next day but I still rested, iced, etc. We had sex last night for the first time post-vas (5 days after) and today my left ball is KILLING me. It feels fine if I sit but if I get up and walk around I think I might die. I really hope this goes away and doesn't turn into anything serious. I'll keep you posted.

Had mine done last Friday, so less than a week post op right now. During the surgery there was no pain. I got called into the room at 8AM, and was walking out of the clinic at 8:35. I took the diazpam before the surgery to calm me. It did nothing, I was petrified. I heard the needle would be the worst part. I could feel the needle go in, but honestly it really didn't hurt. A few minutes later, he said he was half done. Switched to the other side and again I could feel the needle go in, but didn't really hurt at all. Couple minutes later he was discussing the post op care and when to do the sample. The rest of the day, I rested in bed and watched TV. No pain to speak of, and didn't take any meds after. He said Tylenol and ice should take care of any pain. I did ice quite a bit, but no tylenol. Day 2, sat on the couch and rested, iced a little, then went to sons game that night. No problems, no swelling, no bruising. Sunday I was a little more active, but still didn't push it by any means. I have heard all the horror stories and knew I shouldn't do too much, too soon. Monday, back at work and decided I would try walking on the treadmill. I was thinking about jogging, but again, didn't want to do too much too soon. I walked a couple miles, with no problems. Except that I noticed the stitches and hair growing back is starting to get annoying(prickly). From all the posts I have read, it sounds like if you follow the doctors advice-- Rest and Ice for the first couple days, you will have no problems. Too many people on these sites say they have pain and later in their story they mention that they did a lot right away....but that isn't the reason. I felt like I could go for a run Friday right after the surgery, because I was in no pain. However, I stayed on the bed with ice instead. REST, REST, REST!!!

I'm 33, had mine done on Feb 28th 2011. Its March 10th & my right side feels pretty good, but my left side is a bit tender. Walking is fine. I've been reading stuff online, the horror stories seem quite horrific. Its no couple of days and i'm back to normal, anyone else seem to have a "longer" than usual recovery period? Its making me double think the procedure.

I had mine done 35 years ago. As a self employed TV service technician I needed to get back to work ! ! ! The guy who did my antenna work had it done one morning and he was back on the roofs that afternoon. Another tech I had worked with came back to work the next day after his so I didn't think this was going to be a big deal. It didn't work out like I expected but the whole thing was kind of comical.

I took a pill he had given me before leaving for our family doctor's office. I couldn't tell that it did anything.

Back then needles weren't as sharp as they are now and I felt it on both sides. He cut open the right side and although I couldn't see what he was doing it felt like he pulled the tube out and was cutting it like you do with a pocket knife making a loop out of a rope and sawing through it. His knife was more like a DULL pocket knife and I thought about offering to go out to my truck to get a pair of wire cutters to loan him. When he got to the left side the scalpel hurt and I told him about it so he gave me another shot. Same dull knife cutting procedure on that side.

I went home and went to bed using ice packs to try to ease the pain of my now swollen and black and blue balls. My scrotum got to be about the size of a soft ball and it hurt like H3ll to stand up and walking was torture but it was only about 6 steps to the bathroom, thankfully.

So for several days I was laying in bed naked with my legs spread wide so as to not squeeze the black and blue grapefruit between them. Along came the steady procession of visitors, mostly my wife's friends and all females, who came to sympathize with HER over MY pain. Of course she brought them in to see me o.O I think they were all masochists who just wanted to look at a pair of hurting testicles. For a woman who locks the bathroom door when I'm the only other person in the house, she certainly didn't share that shyness about my body. First was our 18 year old new tenant who stood at the foot of the bed peering over my swollen tea bag for half an hour talking to me. Then several of her church friends, sans husbands. Then a couple of teenage girls who baby sat for us. The best was her 14 year old sister who said she was going to be a nurse so she wanted to inspect things up close, and my wife said go right ahead. She did a thorough hands on inspection while to my surprise, my wife left the room. I'll give her this, she WAS gentle.

It was about 2 weeks until I made my first service call and it happened to be at the doctor's nurse's home. As I was struggling to stand up from behind her TV I asked her how long this was going to continue. She had no satisfactory answer.

I just figured my body didn't react well to being cut by a scalpel compared to other people.

Twenty years later when I was scheduled for heart bypass surgery I figured I was really in trouble based on those little cuts I had previously. Strange as it seems I was out of the hospital a day early and back to work in a month.

Went to the doctor today, the lumps on each side are the stitches & should go down with some time, eveything looks ok, just need some more time to heal, "everyone heals at a different rate," I'm told. Time will tell. Things are still tender & don't feel quite right. Breifs help, but the atheltic support seems to be really doing the trick.
