I am 42 years old and have never been pregnant. My cycles were messed up when I was younger, but have been normal for the past 10 years or so. I had gastric bypass on July 29th of 08 and have lost 90 pounds. My cycle has been normal all through this time. I was told that it would be easier to get pregnant after losing the weight. I got my period on Feb. 4th. on the 14th i had sex. Last night and this morning (Feb 20 - 21) I have been spotting a brownish color. Starting on the 19th, I noticed a whitish discharge and felt like I needed to urinate a bit more often. I thought it was a urinary tract infection, but then the spotting started. Any thoughts? I don't know anything about this and I certainly didn't think I would get pregnant for the first time at 42!

Periods do change, and can change from month to month depending on stress, physical activity, hormones and diet.

Brown blood is perfectly normal and very common in many women, it's just "old blood" and tends to either precede or follow the red blood. It tends to be light, not heavy. It can also make up the majority of the period.

As far as the spotting after sexual activity, sometimes that can happen after prolonged or vigorous sex, especially if it has been awhile.
