hi im 22 and was just diagnosed with pityriasis rosea. i feel ashamed that i have a skin disease. i recenty hooked up with a 29 year old and the day after my lips started tingling. then this herald patch comes up and i think its ring worms. then i go to the dermatoligist and its pr. is this a life long disease that never goes away? i feel like im contagious. can anybody tell me if ill be disease free. and i know that i need to get tested for herpes cause i read something that herpes might cause pr.

The exact cause of pityriasis rosea is unclear, but is definitely determined that it is not contagious and there really is no reason for you to be ashamed, it’s a disease like many others and it really isn’t your fault that you got sick. The good news is that it should go away in a few weeks – completely, so it will be just an unpleasant memory. There are theories that some sort of HPV virus is the cause for the disease, but it’s not contagious like herpes and there still is no proof for that, so you really shouldn’t worry about herpes now. Just hang on, it will go away.
