i would not recommend a THD to anyone!  I had my surgery done on September 27th.  I stayed in the hospital for 3 days in pain.  Went home and on October 6th started having massive bleeding.  Had to go back into surgery.   Stayed in the hospital 7 days after that one.  I had 6 blood transfusions.  My surgeon now tells me this is the most painful surgery you can have.  I wish I would have just had my hemmies removed.  The pulling up of the anal canal and cauterizing it was way more than needed.  It's now been a month and I am still in bed trying to recover!  My advice is always poop in a sitz bath.   Take your laxatives and your pain killers.  The whole THD website is bull....this is very painful especially if you have external hemmies.  You may need a water bottle to spray and keep your self clean.  And I blow dry mine then apply lidocaine cream.  My tail bone feels broke.  I can't sit.  I have a lot of cramps. I had blood work done today and I am still anemic.   I have lost about 10 pounds due to the surgery!  Trying to eat right so I can poop!  Ouch!

I had THD 3 years ago and was back in the hospital a week later with severe rectal bleeding and finally recovered the hemorrhoids did not go away but now I have permanent rectal prolapse. My doctor did not seem to be experienced in THD and made a guinea pig out of me. I cannot find unbiased studies supporting this surgery.
