Hello. I have been having feelings of phantom positioning in my arms lately, it's been prevalent for the last three or so days. I cannot easily describe this feeling. It is almost like there is a "ghost" of both of my arms, normally that ghost is completely aligned with the arms and causes the brain to be able to judge the exact position of the limb. It feels like the ghost of my arms is not properly aligned with their physical position. Almost like my arms are physically lagging behind where my body perceives them to be.

There is a definite tightness almost in both arms. If I close my eyes and move for example my right arm all around and open my eyes, the arm will not be in the position that I perceived it to be in.

I can almost relate this to what I imagine a phantom limb to feel like. Even at resting, when looking at my arms, they will feel like they should be floating slightly above their resting position. I have no real difficulties coordinating my arms if my eyes are open, typing, picking up small objects etc is no difficulty at all. It just feels like the arms are generally off balance, like they need to be recalibrated, like one might do a tire alignment on a car.

I have in the past experimented with a number of psychoactives. I can related what I have been experiencing to a sensation one might feel when under the influence of a deliriant or after smoking a large amount of marijuana. As in, my brain sends the signals for my arms to move, but my arms are noticeably lagging behind the time that signal was sent. It's not a severe lag, only like a few milliseconds off, but it's still noticeably off time if I pay attention to it.

I am just wondering if this could potentially be an early warning sign for a greater problem. It hasn't gotten any worse and it only becomes noticeable when I am resting and have time to tune in to my body and it's functions.

Thank you for reading, any advice as to what this phenomenon is called or conditions it relates to would be greatly appreciated.

Although I can't say for sure from this side of the screen that there is absolutely nothing that would be a real, physical, cause behind this "arm lag" (if I understood the issue correctly), there are far far bigger chances that there is absolutely nothing wrong with either your arms or your nervous system. I can say that because no matter how much attention do you put into it you simply cannot feel something that last - to quote you, "few milliseconds". It is your general perception of normal body sensations that has gotten twisted, obviously, as you pointed out yourself, because the drugs you used. So, you are over-thinking this. It is just a sign of anxiety.
