Hello everyone,
This is my first post here. I've read through quite a bit of threads and thought maybe someone here could help me. What does it mean when a nurse tells you that there seems to be an infection in your white blood cells?
I've tried searching online and can't seem to find anything substantive. Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

Hi hon: White blood cells IS the infection! So I am sure she meant to say you have white blood cells so you have an infection somewhere in your body! Have you had a cut, or recent illness? If so when a nurse or doctor takes your blood they are looking for white blood cells to indicate an infection. These cells are your bodies army, they are only sent out to do battle against an invador! Laymen terms!!! So if you know what is infected, and hopefully they have you on some sort of anitbiotics, this will kill off the invading infection. Good luck and health, and if you need anymore help just call out my name!! ;-) XD

Thank you for the prompt response bambi27. I got a phone call today from the nurse telling me that there is an infection in my white blood cells and that I need to come in to speak with the doctor. I immediately thought she was saying there is an infection in my blood not somewhere in my body.
Thank you again for your help.

I'm sorry that you got such a vague answer from the nurse because it really can be a bit scary when you don't know much about medicine and then hear someone tell you something like that! Like bambi said, it's not a big thing and it's pretty normal, so you should be okay. Can you tell us what turns out to be the diagnosis? Thanks!

Thank you both for your responses. My mom was the one who got the phone call and naturally she called me and asked me to find out what it meant. She did go in today and was told by the Doctor the exact same thing bambi27 said. He told her it was probably just an infection from when she had the flu earlier; absolutely nothing to worry about.
Thanks again,
