My husband and I are trying to conceive and I am interested in having a natural birth in a birthing center, probably a waterbirth. My only concern relates to my past medical history. When I was twelve I was diagnosed with cancer and had both chemo and radiation therapy. Now, eleven years later, I am cancer-free, however my oncologist stated that once I am pregnant I need to see an obstetrician as soon as I find out and need to consider my pregnancy high-risk. What exactly does high-risk mean and how/why does this change my opportunity of having a natural birth ?
