My friends have no experience in running. I ask them a question, they give me a sh*t answer. For example, I once asked them if it was good to try to kill myself during running (running really really hard) and they said, "Go for it". I mean, what kind of friends are they...

I need some REAL answers.

My first question is. Actaully I'll give you a story before the question so you can understand my question :D

I woke up today at 8:00am. I went out of bed to go to the bathroom. I went back to my bedroom to have a little shut eye time and I fell asleep for 20 minutes. I woke up. And I went for a jog like I did every morning. Here's the catch, WITHOUT eatting anything. I never do when I run in the morning but last night I had a really good running session (I think it was four miles, my most) and I wanted to try to match it again. But while I was running, and running, for about... a 2 miles, I got TRIED and COULDN'T run anymore! So I gave up on the two mile line. Here's the QUESTION. Is it good to not eat ANYTHING before you go for an early morning a jog? Or any run?

Here's my other question. The story above you gave a hint that I ran every morning AND every night. Is that a good thing to do? Or should I only run one time a day?

Eating before running is a personal thing. I don't like to eat unless I can eat well in advance - at least an hour. I think the more likely cause for your difficulty in the morning was following your longest run so soon. That's no more than 12 hours of recovery, right? Are you running every day, twice daily?

Yes it was. I finished my last run at 9:40 last night. Do you think I should just run once a day? Because I am running twice a day.

Why are you running? If it's to lose weight, you're probably better off running twice a day, as long as your body is handling the stress okay. If you're running for general fitness or competitive running, you'd be better off with running once a day until you get to "high" mileage weeks (if that is even something you want). It all depends on what you want. If you enjoy running like you're doing and your body is okay with it, keep doing it. But running longer for one run daily will help to build your endurance more quickly. A problem with running twice a day is that you don't have much time for recovery... but if you're not increasing your pace or distance much, there's really not much harm in it.

What if it is both? :? I am trying to lose weight and trying to get into shape for next year's cross country and track.

And I have another question. What weight should I stop trying to lose weight at. I am currently 147-149 (it usually changes) and I have a height of 5'10. If you don't know my height related to weight, can you just tell me the body mass to stop? Or maybe just a general guess.

Thank you :)

There is no set measurement to say when you need to stop losing weight, but 5-10 and 150 sounds pretty fit to me.

Maybe someone else can help you more, but I think you're going to have to try different things and find out what works best for you. Try running once a day and see which you prefer.

Zgenator,

Personally I find that I have a pretty lousy day after one of my best days. Not sure why this is, maybe physical, maybe mental, or a mix of the two.

Your lack of energy could have been caused by anything from not enough sleep to your body just needing to recover from last night (my money is on this).

I would say, pick one time per day to do your quality run and don't worry so much about the 2nd. You can still run twice a day if you are feeling good, but if you are having a bad morning (and we all do) then don't beat yourself up about it. It is important to let your body recoup from time to time.

If you're running to get ready for cross country season, I would say worry about your running and less about your weight. Your body will find an equalibrium. (Do make sure you eat enough)

After a strenuous activity like a long run, it can take about 24 hours to replenish the energy stores in your muscles. Eating a gram of carbohydrate per kilo body weight (there's 2.2lbs in a kg) within 2 hours of your strenuous exercise helps speed this process up a bit (say a muesli bar or something).

If you are running twice in a day, make sure you are taking on enough carbohydrate to fuel it, otherwise your body will start burning protein - your body cannot take in enough oxygen to utilise fat as a fuel during a high intensity sport like running.

I think you probably just run out of energy :?

Are you eating enough? If you're running twice a day you need more fuel than once a day.
