Hi,

Ever since I could remember, I have had really red cheeks. They are permanently red and they are a huge annoyance to me. I'm quite fair, so they stick out like a sore thumb. It's apparent in my family since my mom and cousins have rosy cheeks. There's no itchiness or swelling it is just redness. Anyway to make my face my normal skin color?

Not sure if it's a rash, but just in case.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, tatteredfox.

There are several ways to manage permanent facial redness, depending on the underlying cause. Some common causes of facial redness include rosacea, acne, sun damage, and allergic reactions. Here are some strategies that may help reduce facial redness:

  1. Use gentle skincare products: Look for gentle skincare products that do not contain harsh chemicals or fragrances that may irritate your skin. Use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer.

  2. Protect your skin from the sun: Sun exposure can make facial redness worse. Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day, and avoid direct sunlight during peak hours.

  3. Avoid triggers: Certain foods, drinks, and activities can trigger facial redness. Keep a diary of your triggers, and avoid them if possible.

  4. Seek medical treatment: If you have a medical condition that is causing facial redness, such as rosacea or eczema, your doctor may prescribe topical or oral medications to help manage your symptoms.

  5. Consider laser therapy: Laser therapy is a non-invasive treatment that can reduce the appearance of facial redness. Your dermatologist may recommend laser therapy if other treatments are not effective.

It's important to remember that managing facial redness is a long-term process, and it may take some time to find the right combination of treatments that work for you. Be patient and persistent, and consult with your doctor or dermatologist for the best course of action.

Good luck!
