Hello,

I am proud to be able to say that I lost quite some weight recently. I am ecstatic about my new body and thankfully have sagging skin only in one place. Unfortunately, that one place is my cheeks. They look sunken now, making me look older than before. I need to plump my cheeks back up! Will facial exercise help with me or do you have some other advise that I can use to get my cheeks looking full and round again? (I am really hoping to avoid fillers right now, but if I have to, well, I would do that too.)

Thanks ladies!

Hello,

I'm really sorry to say this, but it seems like the sunken cheeks you are dealing with are the direct result of fat loss. Unless you gain weight again, I honestly do not see this changing naturally. There are collagen creams around, which because they only reach the outer layers of the skin probably do not do that much, but they may be worth trying in your situation. You could also consider fillers, which would definitely help you, but they are not permanent and need repeating after around six months. You can additionally have fat grafts from elsewhere on your body. That is permanent in some cases. I would seriously look into that in your case.

I'd advise against facial exercise, because strengthening your facial muscles will not give you that fat back, and may even make your lack of fat more pronounced.

Sorry for asking, but are you at a healthy weight now or could you in fact be underweight?

Actually, facial yoga is a good choice. It induces your skin to renew its collagen production and lifts sagging skin. Look up a good routine for sagging skin and you will see some very good tips. It should take you around four weeks to notice a difference, and your skin will then keep on improving. I use this myself and I have seen significant wrinkle reduction since starting last year. Don't knock it until you try it, evidence or not, because lots of people are very, very happy they do facial yoga!

It's funny 'cause there's another thread around here somewhere about facial exercises, and even discuss whether you can slim your face down that way. Basically after reading up about this I've concluded that this is not possible, but well, losing weight or fat through exercise sure seems to be a whole lot more likely than gaining it. Yeah, to plump your cheeks you gotta either put on weight or use the right makeup (those contouring sets work wonders if you know how to use them properly, check out NYX for an affordable set) or look into fillers. That seems to be a radical step, so you could also just wait it out and see if you get used to your new look after a while.

You can make your cheeks look slightly plumper in a variety of ways.

One is by using a combination of rose water and natural glycerin, which both have excellent moisturizing properties. Just rub this mixture on your cheeks every night and sleep with it, then wash off in the morning. Honey masks are another good idea. I have used these myself on a regular basis recently and they have really hydrated my skin, creating a healthier look.

However, drinking enough water and eating a healthy diet that contains enough protein and antioxidants also goes a long way towards making your cheeks look good, and yes, plumper. Your goal was weight loss, but for many people that can spill into eating less than they should. Be careful.

I forgot to add that yes, some people do use facial yoga to plump their cheeks. I am also not convinced that they work, but don't know that they don't either. You could try:

- Massaging your cheeks in small circles for three or so minutes. This definitely increases blood flow to this area and will make your cheeks look rosy. They may also look plumper.
- Pinch your cheeks between your thumb and index finger and pull, hold for five seconds. Repeat several times.

I am not sure if they fall into the facial yoga category, but I have heard that these techniques do work, so you may attempt to see if they do anything for you.

Nothing I did made my face full again after I lost 90 lbs. I am sorry to tell you that. It could be that there are surgical techniques that would give me a full face again, or that I am just not using the right products on my skin, but I 1. don't have money to see a plastic surgeon and 2. I spent so much time and effort trying to lose the weight and get healthy and now I don't want to obsess over the way my face looks instead. I have learned to accept that I can't look the way I did before, good and bad both. I also have sagging abdominal skin for instance, and I hate it but not as much as I hated being that overweight. Sorry if that doesn't sound encouraging. I don't know what else to say. This is my experience.

Just look around on the web for facial exercises after weight loss and you will see that yes, many experts recommend exactly this. By strengthening the muscles in your face in strategic places using a special facial yoga routine, you can undo a lot of the thinning of the face and obtain a rounder and healthy looking face again. It is not whack. It works. Just see for yourself, look up the exercises for facial yoga after weight loss, they are easily found. I can't post links here but you will see them very easily if you look.
