I have tried diets, exercising, anything I could to lose weight and nothing was working with me because my sugar cravings were out of control. Some will say you could control it, but believe it or not, sugar is a powerful drug. Adderall is the only thing that has ever stopped my sugar cravings and I've lost 20 pounds so far. It was coming off like a pound a day for the first week or so and then maybe a pound every 3 days, then one a week, etc. I know there are side effects, but I'm sure I was not doing my body any good with all the junk food I was constantly putting in it. You still get hungry, but the cravings and urge to eat are gone and that makes me happy and confident.

Wow, that's pretty pathetic if you want to use Adderall to lose weight without ADD/ADHD. Clearly, if Adderall would make you lose weight, you are eating way too much in quantity and/or in fatty/high carb foods.
What Adderall will do is reduce your appetite, so you'll basically be able to function on eating once a day or less, and feel just fine, even though you aren't really. You'll have no appetite, and increased metabolism. So when you stop taking it, you're very likely to regain most of that weight you just lost.
Drugs like Adderall increase amphetamine production in the brain to correct the imbalance that currently exists in ADD/ADHD patients. So what happens when you start taking it and you don't need it? It will give you a high, from which it is fairly likely that you'll become addicted, too. In addition, your body will build up a tolerance, making you take more to get the same effect. Sound similar? Adderall is a drug, not just in the medicine sense, but in the abused drug sense, like cocaine or heroin. It may be safer, but it's still a drug. Repeated use, especially when abused (taken when you don't need it), can lead to things such as depression, dependence (need to stay on it to keep off weight), high blood pressure (higher risk of stroke, heart attack), and even amphetamine psychosis.
The majority of people living here in the US are ignorant, narrow-minded, egocentric people anyway, so you'll do it no matter what other people say. You won't necessarily have any of these side effects, but don't say you weren't warned.

First of all to make people believe that adderall works the same for everyone and causes all of these symptoms good or bad is false. I have add and I can sleep just fine, I have lost a little weight... but I work out almost everyday and I still eat.
Yes it is speed... however it is only prescribed in 10mg pills and the max allowed is 60mg a day. The average speed pill is over 120mg and most people that take speed usually take more than 1 pill. So adderall taken correctly is not the same as street speed. But if you abuse it, then you are just stupid... actually you are stupid if you abuse any prescriptions.
Your body does develop a tolerence for it and that is why doctors increase the dosage. I recommend not taking it everyday even if you have ADD. But don't listen to me you should talk to your doctor. My doctor said if I know that it is going to be a lazy day and I don't need to focus or get anything done (like a movie day on a rainy day). Then to take none or maybe just one in the mid afternoon. This has helped me so much... I take it 6 days and week and usually there is one day where I take none or maybe 1 (10mg pill). I only take 10mg 2-3x a day... this is because it only lasts in about 4 hour shifts and I work til about 10pm some nights. So if it wears off at 5pm...
Sleep- the first week I took it there was one night where I had trouble falling asleep, but since then I have no problems at all. I have taken the pill as late as 7:30 pm and still fall asleep by midnight. (don't try this... I have never had a very high effect from any medicine. Except if it messes with my hormones like birth control but that is another time and another board)
Weight Loss... I have been taking it for 2 months and have lost about 8-10 lbs (not unhealthy) and I work out 45 minutes 5-6 days a week just like I did before taking adderall. I still eat... I am just not consumed by cravings for carbs and sugar. I could see how some people would not eat at all... some days I don't even think about food at all. Don't be stupid people you need to eat. Keep raw almonds, fruit, veggies and cheese handy... this helps even if it is a small amount 7-8 almonds or a piece of cheese. (you will still lose weight if you want... these are all healthy for you). But if you don't eat something you will lose weight, however you will screw up your body and will either gain it back or die at an early age. Which is both stupid and selfish.
If you don't have ADD and are looking to take Adderall for weight loss (its origninal purpose). Talk to a doctor! I asked my family doctor about this (he does not prescribe my adderall... I get that from a psych doctor). He told me that a caring doctor will only prescribe it to an obese individual who needs to lose weight for medical reasons and has shown discipline in eating healthy and being active. He said that they should monitor it with the individual very closely and make them keep a food journal. If the doctor feels that the individual is losing too quickly or abusing the drug, then they should not prescribe it anymore.
It is not a miracle drug for anything... ADD/ADHD or weight loss. You still need to change your thinking and habits.

It is a VERY bad idea to take adderall for weight loss. It is a serious medication. I take it for adult adhd. Weight loss is a side effect, along with many other negative side effects (fatigue, insomnia, and I even passed out once due to low blood sugar/pressure). I lost a little weight on it, but when i stopped taking it for a month I gained that weight back and 10 extra pounds. Also, suffered severe depression as a withdrawal symptom. It is an amazing drug for adhd, but should not be taken lightly or for a bit and then stopping.

I took the first dose after getting my prescription filled and leaving his office. I was so excited that maybe this pill would help curb my appetite. Within 45 minutes after taking 20mg, I started feeling more energized, restless, and ready to jog a mile. I had another appointment with my primary care doctor that day (after taking the adderall), and my pulse rate was 145!!! AND THAT WAS at rest...while I was sitting 2 hours in the doctors office!!! (normal heart rate for adults is 50-100 beats per minute) My primary care doctor was very worried and wanted to know why my heart rate was so high. I told her that my gynacologist had prescribed me Adderall and I had just took a dose an hour and a half ago. She was furious that the gynacologist prescribed me this without even knowing my history or anything. I have severe anxiety problems anyway, and this increased heart rate and nervousness from taking the Adderall didn't help at all!!! The gynacologist actually told me this pill wouldn't make me nervous at all...just help me focus and curb my appetite. She immediately told me to stop taking the Adderall and prescribed me some Xanex for my nervousness instead. The point I'm trying to get at is...unless you have ADHD, you shouldn't take this medication!!! It can be extremely harmful to your heart. Your heart pumps harder to get blood throughout your body if your overweight anyway, and if your taking Adderrall on top of that, your heart is working too hard. You could even go into cardiac arrest!!! SO, my point is, is you shouldn't take this medication UNLESS you actually have ADHD and it is prescribed by a qualified physician. If you look at the side effects of Adderall, dry mouth is definitely one, and increased heart rate can also be one, especially if your just beginning to take this drug. This drug can also be highly abused and become very addictive. So, my advice to you, or anyone else, just taking this drug for weight loss is a very bad idea!!! There are other prescription drugs, such as Phentermine that is prescribed for weight loss. I believe it does help with weight loss, even if my primary care doctor told me it doesn't help you lose a significant amount of weight. My cousin lost 60lbs while taking it though...but she has a diagnosis of ADHD. The problem is, is when you stop taking it you are probably just going to gain the weight right back anyway. Your best bet is...I know you don't want to hear this...but eating healthy and exercising on a regular basis. You can also talk with your doctor about other prescription weight loss pills, such as Phentermine. I didn't have any success with Phentermine though, but everyone is different. I'm just going to try to lose weight the old fashion way, through diet and exercise. Whatever you decide to do, good luck and be careful!!! :D

I first off want to point out to some of the people that have posted on this site. The ones who say, "quit being lazy", or "go for a jog" or "stop eating" or any other rude comment about an obese person losing weight. NOBODY is the same...one person can eat healthy and excersise for months and have very minimal results. Some overweight people eat less than the average thin person, and unless YOU'VE ever struggled with weight then you have no idea what a obese/overweight person is going through!
Second, I want to comment on the ADD information. I am a 32 year old woman who has been on antidepressant for 6 years. I have been married for a year, and my husband and I have been trying to have a child with no luck. After seeing a fertility specialist and working along with my GP, it has been determined that I #1 am very close to having diabetes, and #2 was mis-diagnosed 6 years ago. I have ADD. It's a common mis-diagnoses and many psych. dr's make that mistake.
My typical day consists of having difficulty waking up, after a restless night of constantly thinking when trying to sleep. VERY vivid dreams keeping me restless all night. I would get up, and begin my day of cleaning the house and taking care of my animals. Not once do I finish a task. I will start laundry, but never finish it. I will start dishes, but leave it half way to being done. I will begin sweeping, but leave the piles, I will start my job but get bored a half hour into it. And my husband and I fight constantly. About nothing. NOTHING. We talk about the things in my head, the million thoughts that I have at one moment. And the fact that halfway through the argument, I have no idea what started it.
At this point my Dr.'s took me off the Celexa, and started me on Adderall. I have to put off getting pregnant so that I can slow down, and get my mind and body healthy to be able to carry a child.
I do not believe ANYONE should take this medication for any other reason than to treat ADD/ADHD. I cannot have a baby while taking this medication, yet I have chosen to take it so that I can gain the clarity I need before getting pregnant. Yes, I am overweight, and look forward to the possible side effect of weight loss so that I can be healthy while carrying my baby. But I would never put off having a baby just to loose weight. I do this for myself, for my husband, and for my future children. No one should abuse this medicine for weight loss.
(BUT, NO ONE should EVER tell another person they are lazy. EVER. You do not know the people on these posts, nor do you know their medical history, their genetics or anything else about them. People should think before they speak. this world would be a much better place)

hahahahahah, a suppressant, bro amphetamines are stimulants....anyway...i have been on the adderall on and off since last September 07, i have lost a total of 85 lbs...i only use it when i feel that i have become lazy and need to stop eating(ganja) haha...guys this type of amphetamine dextroamphetamine was made for one initial reason weight loss, it was frowned on in the 60s due to hippies and baby boomers using it..they took it off the market, was bought out by shire and then introduced as adderall. millions were used to fund the drug...once known as obetrol...look kiddies it works, it works just like any other amphetamine, dextro or meth....it twacks you out...yah kinda like coke..what eventually happens to speed junkies? anxiety, and all involved with just that mental disorder..paranoia, cns damage, and schizophrenic tendencies, not that it creates the disorder, but latent disorders are helped unmasked by the drug..what im trying to get at is, this sh*t is speed guys...yes if you have minimal brain dysfunction aka add or adhd...it will help..because you are thwacked out and you need to concentrate on one thing..just like the montana meth heads that have to steal a car, rob a bank just to get cigarettes...
a pharmaceutical is just that its hype with lots of money and patents behind it.. research what the doc gives you, because to be honest with you i doubt they know what these pharmies are about....
take care be safe drink lots of water and if your gonna use adderall for weight loss, and don't have add...you might wanna consider ganja for the anxiety its the only natural thing that works.... eff benzos!!! think logically guys being fat or have add doesn't make you dumb...well maybe the guy talking about slowed down brain functions and not eating..it suppresses appetite not brain function...actually after years of using it i can see where it would suppress brain function, all that depleted serotonin...scary!!!!

i have recently been prescribed adderall for my ADD and i am a freshman in college. i played soccer for 16 years and played for as many as 3 different teams at once, and because of being so physically active i had no problem with my weight. i weighed 175 lbs. with 6% body fat, but entering college i lost a lot of weight because i was not playing any sports. i had no routine of waking up at 6 AM to go to the gym, then go to school, go to practice (which included the gym as well), eat, do homework, and go to bed. without this routine i found i had ADD and was miserable my first semester. with the adderall i am able to focus more on my studies, be less frustrated (because i can actually get things done), and feel better throughout the day. it DOES speed your heart rate, which increases your metabolism, but not enough to matter. the reason so many people lose weight on adderall is because it suppresses an appetite and allows you to feel better about the things you do, in return decreasing depression and anxiety. depression and anxiety eventually cause you to eat more and exercise less, increasing fat. the fatter you get, the more depressed you are. my advice to you is to get to the gym, release those endorphins, feel better about the day, and dont CHEAT your way into being skinny, because at the end of the day you are just a skinny pill popper that has nothing to be show for except a skinny waist line and an addiction to speed.

Blah Blah Blah...Lots of judgment in here...if you want to take adderall to lose weight; do it...it's a lot cheaper and less dangerous than blow...but with a similar crash....i don't do it everyday because after a while you feel kinda cracked out...but it's totally up to you....you will lose weight and if you eat reasonable you will keep it off when you stop taking it...

Ive taken adderall (which contrary to some posts is in fact a stimulant, its an AMPETAMINE!) on and off for a long time. It helps your focus out alot, that can be both a good and bad thing depending on what your focused on. (I once spend 7 hours chipping paint, i just had to get it perfect) A one word description of what it does would be "driven". As far as the appetite thing goes i have not adjusted my diet, and have i lost weight? No. Becasue i eat healthy all the time and excercise. But when you are truly in need of food your body will tell you its hungry as sh*t. ADD is real, some people just have a hard time focusing on things they dont care about (college classes for example). When im out rock climbing or caving I never have a problem getting all of my knots right, or remembering every little twist and turn. If you get dry mouth or a headache drink water! Your body is running at a higher rate and is using more water and nutrients. That being said if you are taking adderall for the weight loss affect stick to a good diet and excercise a little bit more. You will lose that extra weight and you will keep it off as long as you change your lifestyle to match your new body! Everyone wants to be a %7 body fat rock solid stud, and if you could attain that imagine the satisfaction you would feel? The trouble is nobody associates that same level of satisfaction with all the hard work and dedication it takes to get to that point. If you enjoy eating healthy, and enjoy leaving the gym with quivering muscles, then you will eventualy LOVE looking at yourself in the mirror. If you dont need the drug dont take it, instead evaluate your life and decide who you really want to be.

i was only on it for 3 weeks and after one week went by i stopped eating almost all together i never was hungry and always felt great till 2 weeks with eating maybe only a couple times, i tried to eat again but all that happened is i would throw it up. i couldnt eat anything not even an apple without throwing up.... so i went to the doctor and it mad messed up my liver and i had to miss a month of school and only have special liquids for a month until i could start eating again. and all i would have is bread until like 2 months later... ya it was bad so be careful make sure you eat everyday every meal even if you arent hungry........
