I really appreciate your honesty! Sometimes its hard to admit to ourselves, let alone others, that we have such troubles. It is, however, very helpful to others that are suffering from similar ailments. I too am on Adderall. I take it for drug resistant anxiety, depression and ADD symptoms. It has been a life saver! Not only for me, but also for my family and friends. I actually GAIN weight while on it. I'm guessing its because I'm able to actually eat instead of laying in bed. Plus, I can accomplish a task on the first attempt instead of running up and down the stairs 5 times. No exaggeration! Adderall is not a drug to be taken willy nilly. It has some serious side effects. Deciding to take it to loose weight is just the same as deciding to take meth to loose weight. It is medicinal speed after all!

Both are partially right, partially wrong. Adderall is a stimulant, which speeds up the heart rate. Another affect of Adderall is that it reduces appetite, meaning you eat less. Eating less is what causes the metabolism to slow down. After stopping Adderall, when your appetite returns your metabolism may still be at a slower rate. This is what causes the weight gain.

This is absolutely not true. Except for the bad for your health part. Adderall is a stimulant, not a suppressant. It speeds up your metabolism by speeding up your central nervous system, heart rate and blood pressure.
Although Adderall will most likely cause weight loss, it will because it suppresses your appetite, thus making it so that you don't obtain the necessary nutrients your body needs. You will be the wrong kind of skinny and lose lots of lean muscle.

I take 15mg twice a day and actually gained muscle and weight....fat, water, muscle etc. I went from 182-195. It doesnt change the way I eat I actually think I eat more I get real hungry every 3 hours on it or off it. Sometimes if I take it 1.5 hours to 2 hours later I starving. Anyways its all about how much you eat what you eat calorioes etc...and do you workout or not workout. My goal was to gain muscle and weight and I did but I eat 6 times a day usually a big shake in the morning 500 calories, lunch around 1pm then good snack at 4-5pm then dinner around 7-8 then eat stuff during the night. I gave up drinking alcohol 3 nights a week but Ive always done weight training the past 20 years. I guess adderall would affect me if I took it to get high like 30mg at a time multiple times a day or 50mg at once like I read about people doing but ehhhh not for me. It feels like I drank a cup of coffee and I get work done.

I agree with you. I was on it for a while about a year... I do have ADD. I was taking 15 mg a day taken in the a.m. I went from 160. At 5'7'' down to 138 I felt great. Then u found out I was pregnant .. I stopped taking it and it took me forever to gain any weight the drs kept telling me they were worried I wasn't gaining anything. It took about 5-6 month till I really started to show then I blew up and went to 207 lbs at the day I had my daughter. The odd thing is my daughter from that pregnancy has been in the 90-100th percentile for all development areas where as my other two children I wasn't taking Jr previously or during or anything and they both have ADD and ADHD and have struggled alot. The Dr's put my oldest on it when she was in 2nd grade ad she didn't want to take it so I took her off it until just recently when she came to me and said she thinks its time she rriest it again. I think that's the right time to put them on it is when they are aware enough that they need it. As for my middle child he's 7 and I'm going through it again with him but he may be put in it because he is an extream case and schools can only do so much as well as diet I didn't think he would make it to 3rd grade. But I digress the other people that say it the weight comes right back ... It doesn't if while your on it you pay attention to what u eat and make everything g that passes your lips worth it.

As an adult with ADHD, I just wish I was diagnosed earlier; my life would have been much easier that way. However, I don't think your son's teacher is capable of diagnosing him, but maybe you want to take him to some professionals? I'm just saying that ADHD life without being diagnosed leads to lots of anxiety and depression.

I so agree with your comment. It's like seeing life unclear, then putting on prescribed glasses!i have struggled my whole life with adhd!when diagnosed at 37,I was diagnosed 87percent adhd! Tried Ritalin for awhile, after sometime did not see it working anymore.

I take Adderall xR. Adderall actually speeds up your metabolic rate unlike other add/adhd medications. Because it's a stimulant and the purpose is to provide extra energy for increased activities.
