yes. adderall is MOST COMMONLY prescribed for ADD or ADHD. although my psychiatrist has tried what he called a "controversial use" for it. I was diagnosed at PTSD. One side of my brain is too slow and the other is too fast. they ususually give you meds that will slow down the fast side. this comes with many many side effects. so he used it to speed up the slow part instead. and just one hour after taking the first dose, i felt like a whole new person. my mood had took a complete 360. i didnt snap at people and i felt patient. i could sit down and hold a normal, intelligent conversation. i wasnt all jittery and anxious plus i felt motivated. i really would consider this a miracle drug. it has so many great uses and is very versatile, if used correctly.

I have been taking Adderall for the last three years for ADHD and it has helped me enormously with my academic and professional life. Within this short period of time, it helped me focus all of my creative energy and complete projects and tasks.

I must also say that with weight loss, it helps. Being a young woman in the professional world, your appearance is important. As much as we would like to deny this, it is true and your colleagues and coworkers look at you a certain way when you are thin, hardworking, disciplined as opposed to slothlike, fat and unmotivated. Of course, what I mean to say is that adderall promotes the former.

So to answer the question, yes, adderall helps a ton with weight loss. At my lowest weight, I was 5'3" and 103 pounds (I've been as much as 127) and I looked awesome. Now I am somewhere in the middle. I have gained back weight as soon as I stopped taking it. And the weight comes back fast. In the three weeks I have been off the pill, I have already gained 7 pounds.

Obviously because once you stop taking it, you are constantly tired and your appetite comes back with a vengeance. I eat constantly when before I was averaging less than a thousand calories a day. And not because I was trying. On Adderall, food seems, well, repulsive.

But now, I eat three times as much. It's insane. I'm a human garbage disposal. It is devastating to gain weight this fast. It's like I can actually see my butt get bigger as I type this reply.

So if you're wondering whether or not to take adderall to lose weight, let me give you a totally honest suggestion: Buy a few pills from someone you know. If you have a big work/school week coming up, use it then. Don't drink, don't party, just use the adderall to focus on getting done what you need to do. Before you take the Adderall each day, work out. Working out on adderall gives you cramps and makes it harder to do some cardio because your ticker will pound out of control. Then take the pills and get to work.

After about a week of this, you'll lose weight and you'll be able to tell. But I think the trick is to use the Adderall as a way to jump start your diet. Losing those first few pounds after cutting back your calorie intake will help motivate you to lose weight through diet changes and exercise. You'll notice a huge difference and it will help you make the same changes without taking it everyday.

Remember, I took Adderall for three years and got super skinny but that kind of long-term use makes it really hard to control your appetite if you ever go off the drug. And I don't think it is the kind of drug we can take our whole lives. It makes you a little bit paranoid and sometimes frantic.

I hope my advice helps. I really suggest doing whatever you can to not start taking Adderall regularly.

One thing. Men who or teenage boys who take adderall can get ED(erectile dysfunction). If you snort it then you can literally look at your penis and tell that it's smaller.

I have ADHD and I like having the condition personally. When I use to take Adderall my friends kept telling me that im boring and bland now and im not the life of the party anymore. So I stopped taking it. Now that im in college though for medical I feel as if I should use it to study.. it helps me retain the material and focus. Otherwise i would get distracted o_O

Its safe. I was put on it mainly for ADD but I gained alot of weight after highschool so my doctor thought it would be good for me. Ive been on adderall for 2 months and just by taking my perscribed dose everyday ive lost almost 25 pounds. Since adderall pretty much wipes out your appetite, do a protein shake. It has the calories in to give you the energy for the day and theres nothing better than burning more calories than you take in through the day while putting on lean muscle. As I have been getting into better shape, I exercise a lot more often. Though, I didnt work out too much the first month i was on it. Now, I feel better and am more active. Just dont over do it!

you have no idea what you are talking about. All amphetamines in low doses increases the attention span, whether or not you have ADD THIS is why it is widely abused by college students. she will have no more or no less side effects of anyone taking the meds with add AND ADHD medications have been recently prescribed to obese children to help with their weightless. Adipex is a very popular weightloss medication freequently prescribed to those with 50+ lbs to lose... and it is basically just adderall. Having ADD does not make you a pharmochologist...

Lady (poster) if you wish to take adderall go to a medical professional first. Take any medication while monitored by a physician and work on better life habits while on the medication so that you do not repeat the same mistakes that caused you to need to lose weight. I also suggest a physician because for all you know, depending on your weight, you may have something organically wrong in your body causing you to put so much weight on.

Just a note: The chemical components found in Adderall were actually introduced in the 60s as a weight loss pill (Obetrol) which was prescribed by physicians regularly. It wasn't until the 80s that the drug practically fell from the market until its second debut in the mid-90s under the brand name Adderall, indicated for ADHD. Same psychopharmacological makeup, however.

I've been on Adderall for about 3 months and honestly have only lost a couple of pounds. I definitely wouldn't recommend taking it as a weight loss drug. It doesn't work that way for everyone and moreover, it can be very dangerous when not taken for the right reasons.

Adderall is great for weight loss. I do not have adhd, or Add. I gained some weight in high school and noticed that when I tried some adderall(one night I needed to stay up) i didn't get hungry for about 24 hours.

After I discovered this, I started taking it daily at around 11:00am, and it would kick in right around lunch time. I would stay satisfied, and I avoided all of my school's junk food + temptation to go to a fast food restaurants after school. Doing this, I was able to stop eating for days at a time. I would take vitamins and drink vitamin milk to try to keep myself nurished, but I could tell I was killing myself a bit.

I lost about 25 pounds in a month going from 195 to 170(at 6'2 1/2")

After I ran out of adderall my weight went up to about 180, and then from their I felt comfortable enough with my body to actually go to the gym. I don't know about all of you, but when i was over weight I didn't even like to move around. I would feel my fat rubbing against other fat, and it is just no fun.

Overall, I know that what I did was unhealthy and I probably lost a year of my life or so, but I feel a lot more confident about my body, and I am much happier now that I lost the pounds. I cant suggest that you do this without knowing the consequences, but If you do a lot of research you can pull it off and start a better life.

i took adderall when i was going into 6th grade. i was a chubby little 5th grader but once i got on that pill in a 2 month period i dropped down to 68 pounds i looks sick. my collar bone stuck out it was discusting! i went off it and gained about 60 pounds back. it was a big thing for me to do good once i was in high school and since i wasnt doing so good my freshman year i got back on it, for ADD not for weight loss. Being 179.8 pounds and a girl in high school dropping weight fast and suddenly was noticed. i lost that 60 pounds i gained. dropping to 120 pounds in about a 3 month period losing up to 20 pounds a week and sometimes 10 or 15 pounds a week. i would highly advise noone to take adderall as a diet supplement because once you stop takeing it you gain all the weight you lost back, plus some.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to share my own adderall experience cause all of you have been so helpful in decding whether or not to take adderall myself : )

So I am an 18 year old female who was recently diagnosed with ADD after many years of suspicion from both my mother and I (and occasionally teachers as well). My mom constantly had to yell at me to "focus"and I found myself often studying five times as hard as my classmates just to retain certain information. As I got older and began working my ADD came out even more, and I noticed people would talk to me (i would noticeably be paying attention) but at the same time heard nothing they were saying. So finally being diagnosed with ADD was a relief, except I began to worry when my doctor offered the possibility of taking medications. I have always been someone who has shied away from drinking, smoking (tried it and hated it!) and couldn't even manage to take the vicodin when I got my wisdom teeth out (I hated that drug soooo much)! I try not to take medications my body doesn't need, but I was ready to try and become a normal functioning person for once in my life! My doctor prescribed me 20 mg of xr adderall. I was afraid to take the pills at first, but once I took them I almost immediately noticed a difference. I could focus and add to conversations I previously wouldn't have been able to. I was motivated, something I previously rarely was. I havebeen taking adderall less than a week but so far the side effects have been mild. The "cotton mouth" is almost unbearable (i suggest ALOT of gum) and food has lost all its interest (im 5'7 and a 130 pounds, so i am indifferent on the suppressed appetite side effect) and while my stomach may growl I feel no need to eat. I have experienced a few headaches, but prior to taking adderall I often experienced the same type of headache nearly daily!

My advice for people looking to treat their ADD is if you're prescribed adderall, then try it, simple I know but I believe it truly works differently for everyone. I have been lucky so far to have positive side effects, but it is true different drugs are suited to different people. I would NOT recommend taking adderall if you're not prescribed it, because the "high" people mention taking adderall really doesn't happen to people who are prescribed and NEED the drug. But Im not here to lecture, just giving my advice : )

Hope I helped!

Take this from experience. My son was placed on medication when he was 6 yrs old. It opened up a whole new world for him at school. He was able to concentrate, focus, and over all have a more productive day. Have a good relationship with your doctor and ask alot of questions. My son's dose is out of his system within 8 hours. He doesn't affect his eating or sleeping. The test scores and report cards were proof enough for us that our son didn't have to struggle and just the little bit of help the pill provided has given him confidence to branch out. good luck.
