The pill itself is truely amazing. Thats if of course you suffer from ADD/ADHD. I am 17 years old and was diagnosed with ADD when i was about 10. At the time, i felt it was completly insane to take the pill, and was totaly against it. As i matured i came to reality that i should give it a try. I love feeling inteligent and being able to look at things and remember them the first time. But you start to remember that a single pill is not reality. If you want to lose weight, stay legit and it will pay off in the long run. Adderal was first used for weight loss, as doctors and those prescribed to the "Smart-Pill" began to relize other side effects (the ability to focus and concentrate) it was used for those who suffer with ADD/ADHD. The pill also increases your heart rate aswell as the slowing of your metabolic levels, when this occurs your body disregard's the desire to obtain calories and is not hungry. I play Football, Baseball and basketball, and let me suggest one thing. Eat a healthy breakfast and try to snack a little bit during the day when your on the pill. If you chose to not eat breakfast, chances are you wont eat at all during the day. If you dont eat and try to do physical exercise you can faint/blackout very easily. Since the body's heart rate is raised, the exercise will "TOP" off your bodys ability to cool down and will have no other choice but to faint. If you can some how manage to fight through the "None-Hunger" phase, and still eat, you'll feel on top of the world. All though I truely hate forcing myself to eat at times, i can function normal. Adderal has been known to speed up reaction time aswell which is a huge advantage with sports:). Keep in mind, Pills are not always the answer, if you can find a way to cope with your ADD/ADHD, dont use the pill.... Stay legit Brother! Hope this helped.

I took Adderall from 7th grade to my first year of college. It brought my grades from D's to A's and B's. I have been diagnosed with ADD, not ADHD. After I quit taking it, i gained 60 lbs in 6 months. If you do get off of it after a long time, watch what you eat. I have gone on in my life to do some great things. My brain didn't turn to mush, but i found that losing weight was very very hard. Diet pills, dieting or hitting the gym 2x a day, 5 days a week didn't do what Adderall is capable of. I recently went to my current doctor and told her about my life now, and how i feel i should go back on it. I am in control of a great deal and have really succeeded, but I was just missing that extra kick to bring me to the next level. since i had already been diagnosed with ADD, i thought I would try it. i'm 25 years old. She put me back on it, and its just like getting right back on the rocket ship. I compare it to going from driving your car on 89 octane gas, and then switching to pure nitrous. I can focus, think very quickly, and have more drive than I ever did before. This morning I woke up, not wanting to wake up. I popped 2 10mg pills, and before i knew it, i had showered, shaved my head, face and gotten dressed in a fraction of the time it normally takes. I just took a very hard test for an extra qualification for my job, and score 100%. the only one in the class.
I dont have any side effects, except really bad cotton mouth. I don't have any weird odors. I would know, i only date models so I would hear about it. I have good skin color and, on or off Adderall, i only get sick about 1x a year. I am very strict about pill taking and how much sleep I NEED. I never take pills on days i dont work. I always make sure I get 8 hours of sleep, minimal. I work out a ton. i also have decided that i want to stop drinking. i just dont feel like it. candy bars look gross to me, and my body only really desires something that can be burned to make more real energy. I have a bottle of Belvedere vodka sitting in my freezer now, unopened for a week now.
how is this a bad drug? i mean, given the right use, but with anything if you take it for the wrong reasons, you're going to get bad side effects. like another guy who posted on here said "its like walking around with blurry vision and then one day, you put on glasses." i know i have done great things without it, but its that extra jolt of energy. I can lift more, run faster, and i recover quicker. All over, i'm going from being in line with my peers to leaving them behind.
i hope this clears some things up. I took it for many years and I take it now after about a 5 or 6 year break.

I am about to start Vyvanse and I am curious as to whether or not I will lose weight? I took Concerta last year and I lost 20 lbs. However, I was miserable and very depressed. Like most of you are saying, when you stop one of these type of drugs, you gain back the weight quick and tri-fold. I am hoping Vyvanse will always me to the lose the weight I gained while providing me with the focusing I need.

I was diagnosed with ADD in September. They started me off on a low dose with Ritalin IR, and I started to have a tolerance to it every single time the doctor increased my dose. The extended release wasn't working for me, so I eventually was prescribed Adderall. I started taking Adderall IR in November and my weight was at 203. It is 3 months later, and I am now 175 and still losing weight.

I'm at the maximum dose of Adderall 30 mg twice a day and I am also taking Abilify. Abilify is supposed to make you gain weight faster and make it harder to lose the weight, meanwhile I am losing weight rapidly. With the Adderall, it definitely curbs the appetite, you either forget to eat, or just don't feel like eating because you're on this energy high of being a busy body.

I wouldn't consider myself a healthy eater, I love my junk food, and exercise like once a month (leisure working out, e.g. bike riding, etc.) but I was wondering, if I'm on these drugs for life, when does the weight loss stop? I was told I can never get off them.

Hey, I take Adderall for ADHD, and though I have lost some weight... I don't recommend it for that purpose. There are specific reasons that it is prescribed, and weight loss is not one of them, typically. Partially because, rather than actually causing your body to lose weight in a healthy way, you simply stop eating, which in turn SLOWS your metabolism. It can also have other unpleasant side-effects that aren't worth the weight loss. i.e., irritability, TICS, insomnia, and many others. If you want to lose weight, exercise, eat less, increase the fiber in your diet, try to keep your blood sugar regulated (small meals/snacks every 3-4 hours), and try to sleep. Speed is not the way to lose weight, especially not if you want to maintain that weight loss. I hear laughter can cause weight loss too... try doing a lot of that too. Good luck!!

Ignore the people who claim that adderall is only for people with add/adhd. I have add, and adderal gives me the motivation/drive/energy to focus/be productive/be creative. As a college student, I can vouch for the fact that it has the same effects on everyone. Add/adhd patients are not the only people who benefit from adderall. In short if you have problems focusing, concentrating, getting motivation, having energy to do the things you must do day to day then adderall is a good solution. It is just as good for people who manage the day to day things but come time for the midterm paper/work deadline/over-scheduled week/motivation to do some spring cleaning then adderall is good for that too. Add/adhd is not an exact disease and diagnosis is a joke, but some people definitely need adderall more than others. After condoning the misuse of adderall, let me point out some things an abuser should keep in mind.

Adderall is an amphetamine, like speed or crystal meth, as such one should consider any health factors such as pregnancy or heart disease.

Using adderall for weight-loss. For the first year I was on adderall I lost a little weight, but I was not taking the medicine as often as I should adderall can cause spurts of depression, headaches, and alter the way you feel about the outside world in such a way that you do not want to take it as often as prescribed. maybe sip it altogether on weekends and holidays, or just days where you do not have that much to do. To lose weight on adderall you have to take it on a strict schedule. You have to eat properly, even though the smell of many foods will be disgusting, and you have to work out. If you do this then you will lose weight and maybe keep it off. Starting August 2008 I weighed 233 pounds by Obama's inaugeration, February 20, 2009, I weighed 169 pounds. In about 6 months I lost 64lbs. I also saw a dietician at my college gym, did cardio every morning Mon-Fri, weighlifted Mon, Wed, and Thursday night, quit eating out and began making nutrient rich shakes for half my meals. I could not have done this without adderall, but here comes the negative. Living like that grew old, I all but stopped going to the gym, didn't live off adderall and protein shakes, and now weigh 210. Adderall can help you reach your goals, but you need a steady supply and the knowledge that it is not the best sollution.

You're fine just the way you are. Don't use adderall just to lose weight. Do you expect that good people will think any different about you because you shed some pounds? Nope! Just the shallow ones.

While it has been wonderful for losing weight, this isn't why it's my miracle drug. Unless you know what's its like to feel like your mind is full of static, and then to see things clearly, you can never truly appreciate the medical benefit of Adderall. Quote:

I was recently diagnosed with add. I am 40 years old and from the 1st day I took a pill my whole life has changed! My mouth was hanging on the floor. For the 1st time in my life I feel NORMAL. I do not have a zillion things in my mind and my life is so much clearer.... the "static" is gone!!! I have been mis diagnosed for 30 years!
I am ever thankful for this medicine! Unless you have add or adhd you have NO idea what it feel like to finally feel normal. To be able to talk in a convo and not have to interupt every minute, to be able to keep my clutter down, To be able to sit and do computer work without a thousang things going on in your head, to be able to clean one room in the house with out getting distracted doing 100 other things at the same time... I am so thankful!!!

Although it is extremely unhealthful and highly unrecommended, it is much easier to achieve weight loss while on a stimulant like adderall. Not only does it suppress your appetite and give you more energy to do more things, but it helps you focus on your goal. It's true that your lifestyle must be changed in order to lose weight, and adderall can probably help you do that while you're taking it.
That being said, adderall affects your brain tremendously. If you are not on adderall for ADHD, it will not only f**k up your everyday living and relationships with people, but it's illegal. Adderall is a level three narcotic, and you must be prescribed it by a legitimate doctor.

You people are hypocrites. I have ADHD and take adderall; it will help you loose weight. Who are you to tll an overweight person this medication is not for them. Their health problem is just something that can be fixed naturally.... people also say that about ADHD. I mean really... the symptoms of ADHD can apply to anyone really. Not all adults (or kids) behave, get the best grades - that is life. I have a high IQ but my ADHD symptoms keep me from my potential - should I just chalk it up to my destiny. Some people, just lack things. Those people usually end up bottom feeders in society - so we take medication to not be that. Should we just be bottom feeders because that is how we are and we should deal with it without medication? If we medicate ourselves for symptoms most of the world has (meaning it is not a disease and thats why there are no medical tests other than question and answer).....why can an overweight person not use it to loose weight?

Maybe we should all diet and excersize - it is proven to benefit most diseases - hypocrites.

I am sorry but obesity is not a desease in most cases. The smallest percentage of people that struggle with obesity do so because of a physical problem within their bodies. It is a problem of their eating habits and their exercising habits. And quite frankly i have never seen this many obese people before i moved to the US with my husband. I am German and i met my husband who is a soldier in the US Army while he was stationed in Germany, when we moved here i gained some weight as well because oh my god the temptations are everywhere but i got a grip on it and worked it off.
It is fixable by eating right and working out....period losing weight is not intended to be done by popping a pill. It is simple math, burn more caloires than you take in and the weight will come off.
Drugs should be used only for the purpose they are intended to and only if a doctor thinks you need them, they do not go to med school for nothing. And if a doctor prescribes you an ADHD pill because you want to lose weight, maybe this person shouldn't be allowed to practice medicine anymore.
