I also have a herniation w/nerve impingement on L - L/4-L/5. I have more pain on the ride side from hip down to feet. With numbness and weakness. At times both if my legs become numb. i had a nerve test done, which shows I have nerve damage on the right side. Doctors are baffled also, and I do nit think they would believe me had I not had proof of the nerve test. Do you have any updates on your situation?

I'm experiencing the same thing. L4, L5, S1. the torn disc is on the left side and my pain is on the right side rate around the dimple area of the upper buttocks but the pain does go into my buttocks and my hip. I've sent two of my MRIs to the Mayo Clinic for review and they came back with no surgery. I've had this issue for 10 years now and has affected the quality of my life to some degree. I have done everything cortisone shots, burning of the nerves, decompression therapy, acupuncture, amd physical therapy. Some weeks are better than others and some weeks are great. What bothers me the most is sitting too long and bending over too much. Then that area gets inflamed and then I'm down three to five days and the Vicodin does not help with the pain when that area gets inflamed :(. I've tried everything! I just want to feel better! I'm contemplating getting that disc fused. From what I read it's not typical to have a torn disc on the left side but have the pain on the right side. Anybody thoughts about me having the torn disc fused.....? feeling like I'm out of options:((.

Hi Eric, sorry for your pain. I have a bulging disc on right side, Dr says it might affect other areas. L4,L5. My left side is where I have pain. Fixing to go to my internist (regular Dr) to do for something else. Tired of hurting

Hi Erik. I have been told I have bulging disc in my lumbar spine with pain in left buttock and have spasms down right leg. Dr showed me the disc but did not document it and other doctors don't believe me.

I have also had the main symptoms, pins and needles, sharp shooting pains and tightness in my ankle, foot, toes, hands and fingers down my right side for the last 10 years but the MRI's I have had shows the prolapses and bulges are on the left side of my spine and neck. Whenever I cause my back or neck more pain by lifting or exercising wrong the symptoms down my right side get worse. A new physio I have started seeing now says the symptoms I'm experiencing in my right side are nothing to do with the prolapses and bulges in my left discs, but I believe there is to much of a coincidence with the back and neck pain and my other symptoms that they must be connected. How would I go about proving it?

Hi all! My background is in kinesiology and exercise therapy. So I can help.
I have herniation in l4/l5 and l5/s1.
The nerve is being pinched and causing over firing and extreme fatigue in the muscle which causes pain.
It stems from psoas and hip flexors which are already tight (this would be from too much sitting/ forward fold and any kind of leg lifts for core work, bike riding etc.) Then, down the quad front of the leg and even into tibialis and foot.
It's important with any kind of lumbar and sacrum herniation to stay way from forward folds even tho it feels good. Lots of stabilized glute stretch, hamstring stretch (laying in back) and back bends, cobras, leg lifts while laying on stomach. Planks for core etc. Lots of stretching psoas and quad by lay back on a ball or supported quad stretch. Feel free to contact me for more information.

I have 2 herniations of lower back pressing on nerve root. Had 9 injections with steroids in the last 3 weeks, but they never got the spot. It hurts all the time + I am forced to work, as I am approaching 52. Should I consider surgery? Or try another option?
