I am 17 and have been with my boyfriend for 11 months. I recently got sick and started taking some antibotics since I had a sore throat, was coughing to the brink of throwing up, and was sneezing like crazy. I get sick someonewhere around 2-4 times a year, but have never experienced all of theose symptons together. I was taking some anti-biotics but suddenly stopped, about a week later my throat was feeling sore again so I started taking some vitamin C.

I found it painful to urinate, had a high fever running for about 3 days straight and the day after I found small bumps on my vagina. They looked like ingrown hairs, stupidely I plucked out the hairs that were on or around the bumps. Then I shaved. Not a good idea considering the bumps became like these sore or pimple like things. I must of ripped off the top layer of skin on them because the top looked like when you have a scab and you take a shower and the scab becomes soft and white. The top looked just like that. It was very painful but I was more worried about inflamation that I had within my vagina, the painful burning feeling when I urinated, and a yellow and occasionally white goo I was secreting. I went to the hospital because it was very difficult for me to walk and the pain had intensified.

The doctor looked at my lacerations (or pimples) and ruled it Herpes. I couldnt believe it. I asked her how long I might have had this and she said that considering I had been with this partner for 11 months, I must have recieved it from him. She aslo saw my secretion and ruled that I had Gonorrhea and or Chlamydia. I was dumbfounded. I felt overwhelemed at the fact that my partner might have introduced this uncurable disease (Herpes) into our relationship.

I asked for a urine exam or a blood test because I wanted more than her eyes worth to tell me for sure whether I had this or not, but she refused. I was given an ultrasound however, which changed her whole story. After about 4 hours in the hospital I was told that I had a cancerous cyst that might be inducing the vaginal inflamation and secretion of yellow liquid. She said that it might not be Chlamydia or Gonorrhea at all.

I resorted to ask her about the Herpes, she said that not many things cause sores like that, and that she was for the most part positive that it was Herpes. I looked around at home however and notice that my lacerations look nothing like the ones on pictures that I find on the internet. I stumbled upon a thread that mentioned Folliculitis, I looked up images and they look fairly similar to what I had.

The doctor told me to follow up with a gynecologist because of the cancerous cyst. Does that mean I have Herpes? I read somewhere that many lumps and bumps down there can result in a doctor giving you a flase diagnostic. I spoke to my significant other and he has agreed to take a blood test as well. If he is negative does that mean I am negative for Herpes as well?

Please and thank you.

Hi Day,

You had a poor experience with a doctor.  Some of them do think they know everything and are very judgemental.

Please find another doctor that will listen to you.

1.  Folliculitis is VERY common when shaving pubic hair.  In some cases you may even have a staph infection.  Shaving breaks the skin allowing bacteria to enter the skin and cause an infection.

2.  Regarding the cyst, you DO need to get that checked out.  How did she determine it was cancerous?  Without a biopsy it is only a guess - yes, some are more prone to be cancerous than others but MANY are not.

3.  A blood test is the only way to rule out you both having herpes.  Remember, herpes can lie dormant in the body for years.

Good luck, hang in there.
