In response to you, You should not be shaking your head. You say only when your prolactin level is high you can lactate.......maybe in most cases but not all...... this is my situation, I have a normal prolactin level and am lactating for years....also I have no menstrual cycle for years, my endo, is baffled, trying all different kinds of meds, I did have a pit, tumor removed long time ago, 10 years ago to be exact, then everything was fine, I had a baby, and ever since, about 7 years, I have all the symtoms of pit tumor, but my bloodwork and MRI come back normal, so you can have a normal prolactin / thryoid level and lactate.... for I am living proof. and from what I have been reading, lots of others as well.
Take care to everyone out there, and remember take care of yourselves.

No one should be embarrassed for lactating. A lot of men find it very sexually appealing. I think milk is sexy. If a man is right for you they'll except any abnormalities, and possibility turn them around into some pretty odd but intense sex.

I am 16 and my b/f loves to suck my nipples! We are very active sexually -about 2 or 3 times a day- and have been for several months. about 2 weeks after we starting "doing it" I started leaking (not pregnant) and he just loves it and loves to suck my milk. This is weird, but AWESOME! XD

Wow, I am shocked at some of these posts. It is never normal to lactate without a pregnancy taking place. If you are lactating it means there is a cause. It is POSSIBLE for lacation to occur from stimulation alone, but it would require a drastic increase in prolactin levels from the stimulation to occur. I would say this is a LAST resort answer to it happening. First thyroid, liver, kidney and pituitary gland problems must be ruled out by a series of blood tests and imaging tests. Most likely a drug like dostinex or bromo will be prescribed to lower prolactin. After a retesting blood frequently to make sure it is keeping prolactin down a trial period off the medication can be tried and then blood retested. Most likely cause of it that I know of is a pituitary tumor which I have.
This forum seems to be a very bad place to get answers and I hope people looking for answers will consult a dr. and not this forum.

I too have been lactating for several years now. I have discussed this problem with many doctors and seem to find no answers. I have 3 children the youngest 5 years of age. I breast fed her for 6 weeks and then stopped. I have been told this could be due to a thyroid problem but found no strong evidence. I have had every blood test the doctors could think of and they can not find a reason. I have complained of other problems that also came about at the same time as this. My hair falls out in handfuls(thank God I have alot of thich hair). I am also gaining weight like crazy. I have gained over 80 pounds in the past 2 years. My eating habits have not changed and I have always been a small framed person. I have come to the discouraging conclusion that I am not sure if there is anyone out there who can help.

So I'm starting to feel a little better about this situation..heres my predicament... I had my son almost two years ago and breast fed him for three weeks (he was a heavy eater and I wasn't producing enough) and my milk dried up after three months haven't seen any since. A few months after I had him I got the IUD placed in that was fine, hadn't been feeling anythign out of the ordinary and basically smooth sailing. Now just recently for the last 5-6 months i've been feeling the same symptoms of pregnancy...fatigue, nauseasness, heartburn, emotional rollercoaster (and thats not normal for me), my chest has grown a whole cup in size ( which makes no sense because lately i've been working out, losing weight and watch what i eat normally when i do that my chest goes down as well as everything else). I went in to my doctors in May and she was even convinced I was, they took blood and came back as negative....I let it go I continued to feel nauseas and heartburn and again chest kept getting bigger, I again proceded to think I was so I took three tests first one was negative second positive and lastly the third negative...didn't think anything of it. Just last night I was getting ready to take a shower and noticed what looked like either milk or colostrum much like when I was pregnant at 5-6 months with my son. Keep in mind this was BEFORE i got in hot water because I know that might trigger it...I'm a little freaked out..

I too have noticed just recently that I am lactating and my breast are a little tender and I have the tingeling sensation as well. I know that I am not pregnant, in 2004 I gave birth to my 3rd child and had my tubes tied afterward. Now my son is 4 will be 5 in September, I do not think this a normal thing to be happening to me.
I am just not sure how to react to all of this, I see that I am not alone on this road I just do not know what to do!
The thing about me lactating is that it is not bad enough that I am leaking, it is just that I have to express my breast to take the pressure off of my breast. I forgot to mention I am 31 years old, a stay at home mom and a full time student on-line.

Hey guys. I am 18 years old. I have had this condition also for about 10 months? Or something? Close. I went to my normal doctor. He didn't know what was up. Went to my OB/GYN, HE didn't know what was up. He prescribed a lower dose of birth control thinking that it was hormonal. Well that didn't help. So they took blood and urine tests to check my pituitary gland, thyroid, and see if I was pregnant. Thyroid fine, gland fine, never been pregnant and still am not. So he referred me to a breast surgeon. WELL! SHE didn't know what was up. She said wait it out, if in 3 months, if it doesn't stop, then come back. I just made an appointment for the 2nd. So blogs can help you with advice, but always go see a doctor.
It used to happen randomly. Now it only happens on my period. It doesn't usually come out on its own, only unless I'm having sex or you MAKE it come out lol.
But the thing is, is all of these doctors say I'm fine. But back in October of 2008, I had a tumor. 12 pounds in my abdomin, size of a basketball and it was coming off of a little feeler thing on my fallopian tube. Then a couple months later, I had a kidney stone. I'm 18 freaking years old!!! I'm not obese, I don't do anything harmful or anything crazy. Its like "wow...really?"
So I will post my results of my next doctors appointment on here and see if that helps anymore :-)

Ahhh, the ever wonderful "holistic" nutritionist. Don't get me wrong, nutrition and holistic therapy is an important part of medicine, but I have yet to find ANY primary literature sources on nutrition, herbs, acupuncture, etc that can cure adrenal adenocarcinoma....

Hello,
im 17 and this just started happening to me today. I was really kind of freaked out when i found out. It was after i went running. I realized that if i squeezed my nipples that white milky lactation came out. It only is occurring in one breast. The only thing that i cant think of that brought this on, was a sexual experience that I had a week ago. I have never had intercourse, therefor I am not pregnant. But about a week ago a guy that I was hooking up with was sucking on my left nipple for a period of time. He never said anything about there being any lactation and i did not notice until today. I cannot tell my mom, well because she will freak out and it was a hookup. i cant even tell some of my closest friends about the reason why I think it is happening (because the hookup was a secret). I have just never heard of lactation without being pregnant before. But it makes a lot of sense that it came from the nipple sucking (it my first time that it was done to me), because of the stimulation of the mammary glands and some adoptive mothers of babies can produce breast milk. i know its scary and I am for sure 100% not pregnant too! I wonder if this is an evolutionary advantage that some women have.
Thanks

Yes, many women for a long time actually made money as wetnurses just by virtue of pressure on their nipples and made a good living doing it. It's funny how it's been forgotten how that happens. Glad that you guys are all okay though!!
