Ok, I really have a lot of questions after reading all of this. I am still lactating after having my last child 6 years ago. My doctor has run hormone tests and I have had my thyroid checked out. everything has come back normal. I treat myself to spa days at least once a week so the stress level is very low. I am still lactating. My MD has even gone as far as checking for lumps and anything else that could be abnormal and all is normal. Anyone have any more ideas?

Although I have not had the hormonal panel, I do have Hypothyroidism. My breast are never stimulated,l can barely feel them. They are so large and have lost sensation for the most part (52 FFs). But I have been lactating since I was 14 (23 now) at first I was really freaked out, but I am so used to it now, and I dont really give it a second thought. I have been hypothyroid since they removed my thyroid when I was 10 yrs old, and before then I had a hyperactive thyroid. They had to remove it beacuse it was engorged and had cysts on boths sides of the gland. Maybe some of you who are constantly fatigued and lathargic should get a TSH test (thats the test for thyroid levels) done. It may be part of the cause as to why you are lactating. Just a suggestion.

Hi there, I came across this thread googling the problem. The medical advice given is right. I was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor over 2 years ago and hav been on medication since which sorted out the problem and thngs hav been steadily getting better. But recently the problem has returned and my medication hasn't changed so i'm concerned and looking to see if the medication can stop working or if there are other causes for this. I'm only 20, never had a kid and definately not pregnant so I can only think that the problems getting worse again :-(

I think you should not worry because I have that same problem too. I have a very high estrogen hormone sitution. and the doctors said that it will go away on its own. The less you stumlate them the less milk will apear o.k.

It could be because her body is producing to much of esrogen which means a high level of hormones in her body.Because I am the same way I lactate too so you're not alone in this, my doctor said its because I am sexually active and that could be the cause for me to lactate every now and then. But not to worry it will go away and NO! there are no more medicine to help because they don't even give that to the women that just had gave birth any meds it will go away on its own. kizz

As always, seeing your Dr is a much better way to know what or if a problem exists. Recently I have come across a fairly new prescription drug that can cause lactation as a side effect. I do not recall which one but that is another reason to check with your doctor and make sure they know all the medications you are taking. If you get meds from one doctor, your others will never know unless you tell them.

My husband loves to be breastfed and wants to know if I can produce milk. How can I produce milk to breast feed him?

stopped breast feeding when my son was about 6months. I was completely dry. 2 months ago i started to produce milk again. I've taken pregancy test and they all came out negative. My son is 10 months now and i'm still producing milk even though i haven't breastfed him. Is this normal?

you can also lactate if you are on the Depo shot. It is an unusual side effect of it but very possible.

i was worried about being pregnate also, because, im only fifteen, and ive never had kids, and i noticed that my breasts were very tender, and when i squeezed my left one, a very tiny amount of a clear sticky discharge came out. and it freaked me out. i couldn't get any to come out of my right breast though. i also notices, that my dog does the same thing, and she isn't pregnate. but i don't think any of this should concern us ladies. :-) i belive its just hormones, but my period is due in another week or so, and ill post the results. but im pretty sure im not pregnate because i can feel a few cramps like im gonna start my period soon. but as i said, im pretty sure its just hormones. thanks for the posts, they made me feel better knowing im not alone. :-)

I would like it noted, that your post saying "Only when prolactin levels are very high, can you lactate" IS NOT TRUE!!! My prolactin levels are "normal" quoted by doctor via blood test, ( we are now exploring other possible avenues) yet I am still lactating. Please set the record straight, get at least some facts right before you post.
Thanks!
Thank you! I have had exactly the same thing! i started lactating about three months after i had the implanon fitted in. I therefore had a blood test done by the GP and they said my prolactin levels were close to perfect. Even after having the implanon removed I still suffer from lactation. It has been quite a while.. So thank f*** someone actually raised this...it is not always the prolactin level, but always get it checked out!
