A week ago my papa test showed that I’m positive on cervical dysplasia. In fact these abnormal cells have tendency to spread into my uterus. I’m advised to do Leep procedure and I’d like to know what that means and what are the Leep procedure side effects? Thanks.

Hi! I intend to do Leep procedure. I was advised to treat my uterine cervix for just like yours my Pap-test appeared to be abnormal. I was told by my gynecologist that Leep procedure is a newest procedure that treats uterine cervix with abnormal cells. It seemed to be more effective than Laser therapy and is also based on energy. In fact it uses energizing loop that acts like a precise surgical tool that treats the abnormal area removing the abnormal tissue. I’ve heard it’s fast, precise, and effective and it’s not painful what is important for me. As for leep procedure side effects I was told there’re no specific side effects. It’s not noted yet a case of infertility caused by leep procedure, neither premature labour nor pregnancy loss. Instead I’ve heard that the labour after being treated by leep procedure might be somewhat easier and rapid which is not a bad news I guess.

I had a LEEP procedure 3 years ago and basically it has ruined my quality of life. What I wasn't told by my ob/gyn was that this surgery can cause the cervix to stricture and scar closed. This condition is called cervical stenosis and is very serious because menstrual blood can not escape during your period (causing all kinds of grief). I have undergone several surgical dialations to try and open up my cervix but unfortunately it just keeps scaring closed again. They now want me to have a hysterectomy which I have refused. Cervical dysplasia can be treated naturally by improving the diet and taking high doses of vitamin C, B-Complex, folic acid and antioxidants. My advice, don't let doctors cut you. Your reproductive organs are there for a reason. Keep in mind that gynecologists are very highly paid surgeons and they don't make their millions unless they find unsuspecting women to butcher.

what is better? not being able to have your period and children or losing your life to cervical cancer. you can't tell people not to get this leep done. your life should be more precious to you than that. try a hysterectomy and adoption...life goes on. i did the leep too and am still healing. i don't care if i can't have any more children later, i know i'm here for those i love...especially my 6mo old daughter.

I agree that getting the LEEP done is more important than putting it off or trying natural methods. Like all medical procedures, there are certain risks. I had my LEEP done two weeks ago and then my Dr told me that he "didn't get the whole lesion" so I have to have it done again in 6 weeks. As a result I will likely not be able to carry a baby to full term again. I'm now REALLY thankful I had my two kids at the age of 21. The part about the LEEP I did not like (and sorry if this is gross) was all the icky smelly discharge that has come out for a couple weeks. I was told all this was normal. Stuff looking like coffee grounds, brown-yellow stuff, black runny liquid. Yuk! My doctor said it was the medicine they use and it forms a scab on your cervix. It apparently slowly comes off in those prior stated forms of discharge. I am glad to have that stage over with. I hope it's smooth sailing from here. And not being able to have sex has been hard too!

i had the leep done about two weeks ago and it throw my menstrual off and made it irregular. it hurt like cramps and i still have bad days but the good ones are making it a lot easier to handle. i'm just hopping that it doesnt come back. like i've been told can happen. and reading the story about the cervix closing up really scares me, so does all the black stuff and discharge. GROSS! but i love life and have an 11 yr old at home so i believe i made the right choice in going through with it. about the hysterectomy, i've considered it but decided that 30 was too young and my doc said i have the right to change my mind later on.

I am suppose 2 have the LEEP Procedure done soon.I do not look forward 2 it. There r no guarantees with this invasive procedure.I could end up worst off or even have to get it again or have more surgeries as a result of this procedure. So yeah I will try my hand with an herbal regimen first b4 getting cut on. What could it hurt? I HAVE 5 KIDS. No woman wants 2 walk around with a hollow womb as a result of a SIMPLE procedure.

I had the LEEP procedure performed on 12.29.08 after being diagnosed with a mild case of cervical dysplasia in late September. The procedure is quick and relatively painless - just the feeling of a quick prick. I had mild cramps which Tylenol took care of. There is the discharge, first brown then black spots, now a mild spotting of blood - that you have to contend with. I'll return to my obgyn on 1.12.09 for a follow-up. I am 50, have 2 children, so child-bearing was not an issue for me. I am just thankful that my annual PAP discovered this before it turned into cervical cancer.

I had my procedure done the 6th of this month. I did have all the side effects. The brown, smelly discharge. Which at first worried me cause I thought it was just me. Then the coffee ground specs which again I thought it was me. Right now I'm having a hmmm not like an actual period but I guess somewhat like it. Its coming and its not just spotting it like the beginning of your period. I 've been like that for a few days already so I don't know if its an actual side effect or my actual period. I was due to start on the 23rd and this started on the 16th so its a whole week early if it is. I don't know if any of you have had that happen or if it is my actual period. Just lighter. Hey if this is how my period is gonna be from now on hell I'm glad I had it done. I did not have any cramping nor have I felt really bloated. I actually felt great even right after the procedure. No complaints! If I would need to have a hysterectomy even after this because of my cervix closing up I would. I have 3 kids, I'm only 31 but I've already had my tubes tide and don't plan on anymore. But even if my tubes weren't tide I would still have had the procedure done even with the risk of not being able to have anymore kids. Because I need to live for the ones that I already have. There are a lot of what ifs and those what ifs don't weigh in as much as me needing to be here for my kids!! No ifs and or butts about it!

let me first say i went in there ok. i never had a leep, my sister has and she said it was fine.

they gave me injection to numb it.. it hurt so bad i screamed. THEN maybe the anesthesia didn't work? all of a sudden they went in there with the machine, and i got zapped. i wouldn't even call it that. all of a sudden my vision went white and i thought my heart was going to explode. i didn't even know until someone said that all they heard was bloodcurdling screams from the room. they stopped.

so if it went good for u. that's great. but they didn't finish the procedure and im not going to let them

I had the leep done in November 2008. I had my period about three days later, which was really heavy. I am on my period now, but it is very light, like I probably don't even have to wear a pad. It's more like I'm spotting. It is brown in color. My last period was like this to. Should I be concerned about this?

I had my leep done on 1/29/09 at the beginning it wasn't bad. Not much pain hardly any bleeding, no discharge. Today almost a week after, I started bleeding (heavier than i do on my period) and mild cramping (which I rarely have). To be totally honest it has me scared! I will call my doc tomorrow!

I had the leep procedure done 1/16/09. I was diagnosed when i was pregnant in October with cervical dysplasia. My doctor could not do a biopsy until I had my little boy. After I delivered in December, he did the biopsy and found that I had severe dysplasia and he scheduled a leep procedure. It hurt just a little bit and was a very fast procedure. Its been a week ago I had this done and I am having cramping and a yellow brownish smelly discharge with some blood that could almost pass for my period but its not. I called my doctor today to see if these side effects are normal. I think they are by reading other comments left here. Hopefully this will all clear up soon. Hope this helped some of you out there!

It seems like you all have some issues with the leep procedure. I am going to have this procedure done in a couple of weeks. Are there any positive stories out there? Any nurses/doctors could help give light to this situation? Do you know of any alternative procedures?

Sincerely,

I am single and want kids.
