I personally had a leep procedure done on february 11th and i thought tha it was painless and went well! If you are worried about conceiving i would not worry. I just found out that i was pregnant last week! I think that may have helped things along lol. I personally do not see anything wrong with the procedure! Yes you have a discharge for a coupld of weeks after the procedure is over with but it is very normal! That is the stuff that they put on your cervix in order for it to heal properly. It has to work its way out of you some how :-D

I had the Leep done about a week and a half ago and still experience some vaginal bleeding (much less than a normal period which makes it tolerable). Does anyone know how long this is suppose to last?

I had the LEEP procedure done on April 30(Thursday). It was painless, but the med that was used to numb me made me dizzy and the room was spinning really fast.
On Monday(May 4), I began hemorrhaging, almost like a period but so much more heavier. I called the on-call doc and he stated that it was normal and if it was heavy the next day to call my doc. I bled light to medium for the next two days.
On Wednesday(May 6), I called to speak to the on-call doc again because I was bleeding heavily again. Luckily, the doc who performed the procedure was the one on-call that night. She instructed me to come into the office the next morning(Thursday, May 7), and she could check to see if the bleeding was from my uterus(my period) or from the LEEP.
Well, it was from the procedure and she had miss a spot when applying the medicated solution that stops the bleeding. She applied silver nitrate( I think that's the name of it) to the entire area, not just the area that she missed, just to be on the safe side.
On Friday(May 8), I was bleeding again. I left work early headed to the doc office, but in called and left a message on the nurse's voicemail to let them know what was going on. When I got there they were closed for the day.(early on Fridays)
Anyway there was a nurse still there that was returning calls to patients.
When she called me she explained that I would bleed and that if it wasn't bright red like a period not to worry. She went on to explain about the discharge, dark brown, a few very small blood clots, and runny at times with black coffee-like grinds. Because the area is moist a scab really can't form, so it's sort of like having a wet scab and during the healing process all the junk from it has to come out.
I bled very light over the weekend and today just some discharging still from the LEEP. Only experienced very light cramping and there was no foul odor during discharge.
The only advice that I can give you is to find out how many of these procedures that your doc has done. But other than that I'm doing just fine.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just had the LEEP done on Tues. the 26th. I refused to be put out, i just had local, it hurt pretty bad but it was only 10 min. and I was able to leave the hospital 15 min. after it was done. I have had almost no bleeding so far, the discharge is is far less gross than what i had from the colposcopy and biopsy that was done earlier. My doctor knows i want more children, she said it is in only about 2-3 percent of women that have any of these cervical problems after the procedure. Just make sure u follow what the doctor says and you should be ok. Im sure it is safer than having to have a cone biopsy. hope this helps, i was so worried before my surgery and it wasnt nearly as bad as i feared. Now i am just hoping for good results :-)

I recently had the LEEP done and they basically numb you up which I had a side effect from I was shaking really bad so they only gave me half of the medication to numb me. The procedure was over and done quick. I felt no pain until 6 hours later and it felt like having cramps and wearing jeans was not an option especially if you wear tight jean( skinny jeans) because it irritates you. I was sore for 2 days whether that varies between women I dont know for sure.
Its only been 3 days and I was up and about yesterday and today and I am back into my normal routines and because I was not told or instructed I was intimate today with no pain but after reading up on it, youre suppose to wait a week and expect 4-6 weeks of spotting while your cervix fully heals.

The discharge I experienced was way different from the biopsy. I had a papery brown discharge that looked like a lining come out of me piece by piece. I was not told about it so I thought they left something in me to call and find out that was the healing process beginning. It can be white yellow tan or brown so dont be alarmed.
Its want too bad really, You will feel tired the first day so just rest the second you have a bit of cramping the third you are good to go.

Too many LEEPS will in fact effect pregnancies it weakens and makes your cervix smaller and there is a higher chance of preterm deliveries. I have 3 children so I am done having more.

I had the LEEP in Mar of 2008. The procedure was fairly simple, it took all of maybe 30 minutes. I remember that it felt sort of crampy, but no big deal. I had, based on what I've read, what I consider to be a relatively positive experience. Afterward, I had the discharge (non odorous) and faint bleeding and the shedding of the medicine they apply to the cervix to stop the bleeding and some cramping. I have since fully recovered, suffer no complications, and all of my paps have been perfectly normal. I now have 2 more paps before I go back to annuals (one every 6 mos, I had CIN III, or severe dysplasia). I must say this, however. It is completely irresponsible for some of you to advise others not to have this procedure. Relating your personal experience is one thing, letting others know about possible side-effects, but to tell others not to have it done and to recommend alternative treatments is wreckless and dangerous. Keep in mind that a person's reaction to treatment is highly individual and that just because you have a certain complication does not mean that everyone else will. No one knows the severity of another's condition on here. Those recommending against treatment on here could change the mind of someone who has Carcinoma in-situ, or CIN III, the final stage before you are diagnosed with cancer. Delaying or deciding against treatment could be a death sentence for some of these women. If you have concerns about having this procedure, talk to your PHYSICIAN. He/she has had years of training and experience, one thing that these women lack. If you still have concerns, think about getting a second opinion. Some of these complications only occur in 2-3 percent of women, i.e. cervical stenosis. I hope this is helpful to those about to have the LEEP. Good Luck.

I had a leep procedure done in 2001. A few months later, my dysplasia came back. So I had a partial hysterectomy done. Since then, it has stayed gone. I can't say I wouldn't do it all over again, but I do still, this many years later, have side effects. My hormones become out of wack, and I have terrible mood swings at times. I have started getting early menopause, (I am only 31). Also for the last few years, I always dry up during sex now. I started to always get frustrated! I thought I may not have been doing something right, but my doctor said its from the surgeries. I understand not everyone is going to be the same with side effects, but in years to come, if these signs start happening to you, its not something you are doing wrong, its from the operation.

I had an abnormal pap smear, then a biospy and then a LEEP, I did this about 2 weeks ago and I am fine. I read all the horror stories and was totally freaked out. I know everyone is different, but for me it was fine. I was put to sleep, it took like 20 minutes to do and about an hour to recover an leave hospital. I went home took a nap, and was at work the next day. I did have some spotting and discharge for a few days, but now I'm back to normal. I just got results today, and everything looks great! Don't be discouraged, do this, safe your life, don't get cancer!!!!

I canceled my LEEP procedure after reading this forum because it freaked me out so much. I was almost in tears when I went in for my appointment today but I had is done today and it was a piece of cake! I didn't even feel a thing..not even the shot to numb you! I was in and out within like 30 min and drove home after. I have had slight cramping since but nothing that Motrin can't handle! Just Do it!!!This is well worth not getting cancer =)

I had a Leep procedure done about six years ago. I am the biggest baby alive and won't even let the doctor give me a blood test!! I had my walkman at the time (this is how long ago it was), got a shot of novacaine and they did the procedure in the doctor's office. The novacaine shot was the only thing that hurt. It went pretty fast and I had no side effects then or now. I had to get freezing done after, just had another colposcopy this year, and hopefully won't have to get anything else done, but it was nothing. Didn't feel a thing, not then and not now...no regrets, I would do it again in an instant.

I went through a lot of the same things as most of you with the proceedure, but my biggest concern is my cycle after words. I had the proceedure done about 4 or 5 months ago. My cyle used to be 28 days on the button, but NOW oh brother. First cycle since it was 35 days, then a huge 41 days o.O , then 31, then 28. ok so 28 days, Im back to normal....you would think...this month I am going on 35 days and still tapping my foot waiting. Mean while the PMS systems are not just 1 weeks they are like 3 weeks long. This ridiculous. I have searched and search the net for others with this side effect. ANYONE out there that this has happened too??

At my 6 week check up after having my oldest son I had a bad pap, then was told I had several spots of cancerous cells on my cervix. I had the leep and have some mild scaring on one side of my cervix. When my son was a year and a half we got pregnant again with our second. My OBGYN just kept an eye on me to make sure I didn't dilate early due to the leep and at 17 weeks I had to have an internal ultrasound. Everything went smooth with my second pregnancy, in fact I went overdue and had to be induced! The only issue the leep caused in my pregnancy is that I didn't dilate evenly due to the scarring so it "took longer" according to the doc but my labor was actually 7 hours shorter than my first :-) Don't be scared, get it done! Cancer is no joke, think of the babies you wont be having if you die of cancer!
