I'm at 6 weeks now and still have trace amounts of drainage. I'm REALLY hoping it stop within the next two weeks. It's really the only lingering problem remaining.

Hello Reznik,

Glad that my post has some benefit for you. The drainage that you’re experiencing is not abnormal especially in your first and early second week. Remember that the excessive gas that your having is usually due to the anesthesia and Nitrous oxide that were used during sugary and as that gas works its way out of you it is not uncommon to have lose, forceful stool that is difficult to control. The seepage from your rectum wouldn’t be something you could control even if your anus area were at 100% as it is the slow seeping of the wound discharge and will always leave streaks! My recommendation is to just cycle through four or five pair of underwear and forgo the “Dipper” they will clean completely in the wash!

You’re in the second week so it slowing down is normal and you should expect it through the fourth week although it will continue to slow down throughout. At your next appoinmet your doctor will give you some rectal cream that will sooth the anus and help with the itching that you don’t have yet but soon will. That will also make it so you don’t really “Feel” the seeping but you will notice it when you get up and walk around.

Not to worry it sounds like your doing fine. Also keep in mind that everyone has a little different discharge parameters because of several factors like, how big the hemorrhoids were that were removed, how many were removed, the condition of their immune system, age plays a big factor as the older you are usually the less pain there is and less discharge because the hemorrhoids being removed typically affects more fat tissue then in younger people where the effected tissue is usually muscle and that causes more anal spasms, which the Zipsor, ice and hot baths are very effective in combating and that spamming causes a lot of discharge. You may up your hot baths if you to elevate that a little bit.

Hope this give you a little info,

Hey Brian,
Thanks for responding. I was concerned about the drainage because I am actually well into my 3rd week now (Day 18)...It has subsided a bit now, but still I have to wear some sort of padding at all times, basically.

No itching yet, the BMs are not bad at all either. No laxatives for some time now (except for a couple of Metamucil Waffers here and there and high-fiber diet), only some stool softeners (which I am out of today) and plenty of water and vitamins.

Also, I am somewhat younger (32), so I guess the pain and discharge would be more intense in my case? Anyway, I do take Sitz Baths after each stool and even increased the distance I walk from 1 mile to 2. I go out regularly and can actually hang out with my friends now, which is a great relief...

In addition, I have heard that having urinary issues after the surgery is not uncommon, but again , it is Day 19 for me and I go like once an hour or so...and not without some drippage. Any thoughts on that issue, Brian? How soon before the urinary stuff is back in order after this surgery?
Much appreciated again!

Hello again,

Ya that walking your doing is going to increas your problem! You are probably one of the few whose doctor has given good pain meds the only problem is your NOT IN BED! You need to limit your movement and let your body heal! Other then that the drainage issue is fine and you should see a drastic decrees in a few days if you quit that mile walk.

Defiantly sounds like if you pamper yourself for a week you will be out of the woods!

Enjoy!

Hello,

It seems like three weeks is a little long to be having urinary problems but remember that your on a high fiber diet and your probably drinking a lot of water and fluids, eating food with a lot of water in it, fruit greens veggies on and on so your water intake probably has a lot to do with it. Also, from the amount of seepage you have it indicates that you hemorrhoids were probably large and plentiful and would have left a large area of your internal anal membrane as a wound and this would explain your somewhat exaggerated symptoms and probably why your doctor doesn’t think its abnormal.

Just relax and take it easy and in a week or so it will all come back.

It's week 6 for me and I've had heavier drainage today then I did 2 weeks ago. I think this is due to 2 BMs and firmer stools then normal today. I ate some prunes after dinner so hopefully tomorrow it'll be softer.

I think with this recovery it's 4 steps forward and 1 step back. Over time it will all work out, but the process is lengthy.

It's Day 20 for me and I can move around pretty comfortably now. Discharge has gotten better, but it is still there and I still have to use a little padding on me bum. Peeing feels a lot better, but not perfect yet.

However, I wanted to ask you guys/gals: how is the area suppossed to well, feel? Because mine feels (and looks) like there is a 'roid there still. I say this because the area is uneven and there is something sort of pertruding, like a 'roid. It's not hard nor is it painful

Is this something I should be worried about?

Peace, fellow sufferers!

Hello,

It's pretty normal to have a "Skin Tag" there. Usually it will go away in time but not always. The thing is that the blood stream has been cut off so it will not become a hemorrhoid. You should see it go away in the next two to three weeks but it dosn't always so don't be alarmed if it stays with you.

Glade to hear you feeling better.

Hey Brian,

Appreciate your response, as always.
This "skin tag" does not hurt or cause discomfort (I did not notice it at least) and even if it stays, I probably would not care all that much. Even after a bowel movement it does not swell up like a 'roid would.

Hi

Had my op two weeks ago. Not had any real pain just discomfort. The itching started yesterday, why is this? Is this normal? It is driving me mad.

Also during my surgery for roids, I also had skin tags removed. However, it doesn't look or feel as if they have gone at all. Is this just swelling and they will go eventually? Also, there seems to be a new bigger one, which is quite sore and not near where I had the surgery? Is this normal?

Everything else is good, BM aren't painful, it's more the thought that they might hurt.

Am I expecting my recovery to be quicker than it is going to be? I go on holiday in just over 4 weeks, will I be ok to fly? Am planning to go back to work next week too.

I had surgery two weeks ago. Three large hemorrhoids plus anal fissure/internal lateral sphincterotomy. Pain first hour was intense, but given drugs to reduce it. Came home same day. I have been religious about powdered citrucel two to three times a day plus stool softner. Sitz bath has helped most. As gross as it sounds the wet heat relaxes the rectal nuscles and a bowel movement is relatively easy. Have to keep on top of sanitation. I have been eating two full bran muffins twice a day, plus more fruit. Meat consumption reduced except for fish. Doc prescribed valium for limited time, and it has helped with initial urination problems. Limiting Oxycodone because it can constipate. Still exhausted and seem to sleep a lot. Tried to go back to work after on week, and only lasted an hour. Made it in a few hours this week. Hopefully recovery will allow a normal work schedule soon. Good luck to all who have had this. Ask doc about banding procedure. Had one done that way a few years ago with no discomfort.
