Hi,

I have never filled out any forum before but after my experience with my surgery I felt it was my duty to! If I had listened to all of the forums and experiences that people shared online I most likely wouldn't have gone through with my surgery because some comments are terrifying but I am happy to say that I went through with it and it absolutely wasn't nearly as bad as I had anticipated. In fact the hardest and most painful part of it all was the constipation.  The first few days were totally fine.  I pretty much soaked in the bathtub all day with my laptop outside the tub and caught up on TV shows.  I was scared to eat solid foods for the first few days so I lived off of chicken broth, apple sauce and lots of Boost for fear of losing too much weight. On day three I started incorporating solid foods...wheat crackers, chicken, figs, pears.

It wasn't until day 5 that I finally passed a bowel and it was hard to get it to come out, thanks to the percocet. I certainly didn't think I was going to die when I did I just got into the tub and relaxed and the pain passed.  Most of the days after that it was all about eating and trying to go to the bathroom but I had a very hard time doing so.  Even after the 2 week mark I had a whole week where I was so constipated but I discovered that I was doing it to myself.  I was drinking Metamucil twice a day (per my doc) and eating a lot of food high in fiber but the problem was that I wasn't drinking enough water/liquids to compensate for all the fiber which was what was making me constipated. I finally just stopped with the Metamucil and started eating regular food without "watching" everything I ate and I am finally going like I always did.

My biggest concern is that I still have one big, what feels like a hemorrhoid, still on me. It is like a ball and rock hard and its what I had before and what caused me to have the surgery and it still seems to be there.  Its been almost 4 weeks since my surgery and I have another appointment in 2 weeks so I'm hoping it goes away or else me and the doc are gonna have some words!

Hello,

Just would like to express my frustration on terrible condition I suffered for already 8 months, after hemmie excision. Tremendous help and support I found on board anal-fissure.org

I have shared my story there. And there are many similar with great people supporting.

I am currently nearly 4 weeks post op following a hemmorriodectomy on 17th September, I am just starting to feel better. I was discharged from the hospital with antibiotics and oramorph for pain relief. I was in agony from the start, the first bowel movement felt like I was being split in half! The best thing I found after having a bowel movement was to sit in a hot salt bath, it made the spasms less painful. I became constipated after a week, I couldn't go for 6 days,my tummy was very swollen and even urinating was nee on impossible! My wonderful GP prescribed movicol sachets, enemas and supposiories which thankfully did the trick. I have changed my diet totally, Ive cut down on dairy, tea and coffee and have 2 pints of pure o.j and water every day, 45ml of lactolose, 2 senna and 3 movicol every day. I am only on a small amout of oramorph daily and I am now sleeping and feeling better. Although classed as minor surgery, I feel the recovory is major. If I knew what I know now I don't think I would of had the op but I may feel differently in another 10/12 weeks.

I agree - major really is the word. Salt baths are the way for soothing your pain. And yes you will feel it was worth it eventually as I do now. Well done for going through it. About six weeks later I had some sort of spasm with constipation too and seemed to rip it all open again with what felt like a tennis ball's worth! I thought I'd never recover. What I would say is that I'm free of the haemorrhoids after over 30 years of suffering terribly and that's wonderful. I do have to get to the toilet VERY quickly indeed though now at the first sign of the urge. Other than that I'm almost back to what you might call normal. Take care and rest well.

Omg laying in bed 3days after surgery. Is this what I have to look forward to? Finally had a bm today to pass the packing that was in there followed by what I felt to be a golf ball only to see it was the size of a chicklet. Can't wait for the next one. Hope this gets easier. Good luck on your recovery

I had a hemorrhoidectomy at a specialist clinic in South Korea. Six hours after the surgery, I got up and urinated. Shortly after, I was provided a dinner of beef bulgogi, cabbage kimchi, noodle soup, and tanmugi (it was awesome). Had first BM 36 hours later and second 38 hours later. Slight pain, but going back to work 2 1/2 days after surgery.

I just noticed this topic when I was googling about this. I had a hemorrhoidectomy in November of last year and just had to have another one five months later. I just had this one yesterday and so far I am completely miserable. Of course it didn't help today that two of my kids had to stay at home today because they were sick. So I haven't been resting like I need to be doing. I have had 6 kids(five pregnancies) and I think this is a lot worse than when I had my kids. I have been so light headed this time after this surgery. And really bad sick to my stomach. I can't hardly keep anything down. Anyways, I just wanted to put my two cents in

I had piles surgery and anal dilation(Lord's procedure) 7 weeks ago. I got removed 4 external piles. Although I have very little pain after BM but I can see a yellowish disharge. It keeps coming out all day but very little amount. Also my 3 wounds have been healed but there is one wound at the anal opening which is not healing. I am not able to see any improvement in this wound. Please let me know is this fine.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am on my fifth day at home after surgery, and I'm in a lot of pain. I'm wondering how it turned out for you?

Hi there. I've just had two removed by surgery and it will be two weeks tomorrow. I was in a lot of pain and needed the tramodol and still do on occasion. I'm not to see be reviewed until October which shocks me because I did want to know why I have a hemourhoid poking out when I didn't have one before. I'm hoping it will disappear but it shows no sign of it. It's been the main source of the pain as if a crocodile clip was attached to it. My bowel movements are ok although the first week was like having a baby every time.

So pleased to read someone in pain after 5 weeks.(in a reasurring way... Sorry) I'm 3 weeks recovery and Im still in pain after BM. I'm eating an excellent high fibre diet, IM STILL TAKING ibuprophen and Paracetamol... Even though its been 3 weeks, I'm jumping in bath after BM, and having regular baths through out the day.
When does this get better??? All the websites say 7-10 days!!!!! I'm on about day.... 21????? There's no way I could return to work yet???
Its so frustrating. Is there light at the end of this very dark tunnel??

I had this surgery almost six weeks ago and the doctor said five to seven days off work, bull sh*t! The hospital released me two hours after surgery and said the numbing could last up to three days, how about three hours. I knew three hours after I got home this was going to be a challenge. I slept one hour that night and pain killers ocy did nothing for me. My first bw through day 6 I had to put a towel around my head and scream as loud as I could and while the spasm forced you to stay, the tightness forced you to push, enough of pain killers since it causes constipation, you can choose which pain you want. Day 2, 3, 4, 5 and six was the same. I called doctor and they said he was on vacation and my recovery is normal and can take 7 to 10 days. My seventh day I stopped having children after bm and starting throbbing instead to the sound of my heart beat for 8 hours the next 14 days. After day 10 they said two weeks, after follow upon two weeks I asked doc why the hell did he not tell me the truth, he said I needed it and it will be worth it, by the way you now have an infection and take these antibiotics for 30 days. I own my on business and did not step out of my house until day 15 for check up, 19 days before I could sit and 24 days before throbbing stopped and 4 weeks before I started feeling a little normal. Had internal hems and anal fissure, after four weeks I now have a skin tag between the checks that I have to have removed. My eating habits sucked and I did not have enough fiber so this is my fault. I had the surgery four days after he said you need it since someone cancelled so I read nothing on this. I will admit I feel better then I have in years but the pain to get rid of the daily harassment of roid's is undesirable and indescribable unless you go through it. I would do it again if I had to and would definitely go on a fiber diet a week before surgery. I did lose 10 pounds 7 days after surgery, they should add this to torture, I swear the world would be a better place if they did. This is day 44 and I'm at 80%, the past three years I was at 40% so even though this sounds bad the aftermath is worth it.

Sincerely

The not so bad ass after hemrrodectomy!
