Throat still sore (early Day 10) actually havent gone to sleep yet just been busier than heck today, but overall pain was down to about a 5/10 most of the day, did try to eat some chicken strip and mac/cheese chewed really well let it get small and soft still had trouble but i ate it! YUMM! nice to have real food again!

Took my sleep pill and 2 vicodin around midnight (its 2am now) so im guessing it will kick in real soon here, but just tryin to catch up on stuff (work is way behind for me), gonna have to lay down soon tho cuz i have a doctor followup at 9am tomorrow, still hurts to swallow but has been getting better.

Odd part is my tounge still hurts and feels swollen, almost like there is a caked on something on the tounge, i brush it often and well but still its there daily, weird.

Really want to have a real lunch maybe even tomorrow jimmy johns sounds fantastic, will have to see if i can muster up the courage to do it, maybe get it and break up small and chew really well and make sure i take vicodin a good 30 mins before trying to eat it.

No bleeding still, no scabs came off today that i know of, some might have gone down throat while swallowing or eating earlier, but it looks good in there too mostly white nothing funky weird or discolored.

I hope I am over the top of this hill and slowly gaining momentum on the downside of healing getting better everyday till its back to normal (whenever that will be).

Bill :-)

(day 11) Overall I think I am thru the storm, still sore but much easier to tolerate, last night i only took 1 pill vs 2, and waiting almost 8 hrs before taking it (before ever 4 hrs i was waiting to take 2 pills).

I would say pain wise im maybe a 3/10, still cant woof down a piece of chicken or something but with careful chewing (took me 40 mins) I ate 2 pieces of pizza last night) yeah it hurt but nothing horrible and it was NICE to eat again!

SO I guess my postings are pretty much done, i did see the doctor yesterday who said healing is going great, i had zero blood and not much scabbing that I saw or that came out (so i guess most of it i swallowed?) eww hehe, but I didnt realize it...

Tounge is still sore and swollen a bit but again not too bad, I would say it took 8-9 days to feel human again for me but again every case is different for those who are reading and wondering what to expect.

Hi Bill, I just read through all your posts and it sounds like you weathered the storm pretty well! Now that you're five months out from surgery, how are you feeling? Would you say that you're even having any problems anymore? Let me know how you're doing! I'd like to see how everything's going. Thanks!

writing this a little late for you, but I am on day 7 and found that regular ibuprofen worked MUCH better than the narcotics! Only problem I was instructed not to use on days 4-10, so a few more days yet

I am on day 5 of a nose job (widened) and tonsills removed & scaring of the back of the throat.
These are for a) difficulties breathing through my nose and b) the throat works are an attempt to get off a CPAP machine. (50% chance)

It has been bloody sore and I have a strong threshhold for pain. But I now advise anyone having this done, learn to get into a rithym. Take 2x panadol every 3 hours. If you are in the heavy pain stage, it will take 30 minutes to start working. Use lemonade flavoured icypoles to get the tablet down and keep up your fluids. (Colored flavored irritate the throat).

Be aware you brain will be spaced-out. I missed out on a part today 25th Dec and I have cancelled my birthday for 26th.

If the Panadol doesn't work go for Panadine Forte or if doc prescribes, go for the Endone. This still only works for 3 hours so try and stay on the milder Panadol.
My experience though the 2x Panadol every 3 hours catches the pain while still at low pain. During the night I have been taking them at midnight, 3am, 6am, 9am. I have no trouble doing these night meds because it is at these intervals i am wriggling in pain.

I have no idea when I will be back to normal, guessing another week. If you have any questions or request clarification you may contact me on ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** private e-mails not allowed **

My 41 year old son is having his tonsils taken out Friday and I will be his caregiver. I am a RRT by profession so I know the need for humidity and hydration but are there anymore tips you can offer since I will only be able to stay with him for three days and then he's on his own. Reading this makes me scared to leave on Day 3 but duty calls me back home.

My mom is 39 and just got her tonsils out. It is maybe the 5th day home and when she is laying down in bed all she is doing is coughing. Can someone tell me why she just coughs 24/7? When will it stop?
