Hi,

I'm considering having my Mirena implant taken out. I've had it in for the last 4 1/2 months, and I've been spotting every day. It's started to affect my relationship (sex and spotting not that fun), and the constant spotting managed to lower my iron levels, not to mention pms for 4 1/2 months or cramps (which I've never had before), oh and constant thrush from wearing a pad for 4 1/2 months. I wished that I'd been properly warned (i.e about high percentage) that I could spot for this long, I would have never have had this put in. But dr said it was a last resort for my heavy periods. I'd take wearing a nappy to bed during heavy period, than this implant any day! Can anyone tell me if this is normal?

I had similar problems for the first three months, then I got a four month break, then another month or two, then a four month break. I am now a month and a half into the spotting, etc. again. The thrush has been constant for a year also. I think if it is this bad you are probably reacting to the progesterone. You don't want to live like this all the time, I would take it out. I keep saying I am done and then I get another break for a few months.

I have had my Mirena in for 3.5 years and love it. I was warned about the bleeding by my OB and did bleed for 3 months straight. However, since then I have only had 2 periods in 3 years and they were all very light only lasting 2-3 days. I have the occasional spotting but nothing compared to having a period every month. I love my Mirena and will be getting another one put in after this one's time is up.

I'm very glad I'm not the only woman with this. I've had the Mirena in place for 20 months. And I'm still getting the brownish discharge. I cannot go on the pill as I'm epileptic and on anti-epileptic medication, which over power the pill. I fell pregnant with both my children whilst on the pill. Heavy periods and pregnancy increase my seizures, this is why I thought the Mirena would be right for me... But I feel uncomfortable all the time because of the discharge and I'm constantly wearing pantiliners for most of the month. I lack confidence in sexual acts with my partner. We been together nearly 10 yrs so it doesn't really bother him all that much, but because I lose confindance whilst I have discharge.. Sexual acts between us hardly happen because of this. Its so frustrating.  :'(
