Hi,

I had an MRI yesterday with contrast at around 3:20pm got home an hour later used the bathroom and noticed I was bleeding. I haven't had my period since February my period has always been irregular since I was a teen so I'm used to it , but found it weird that out of all days I got it after the MRI. I Just find it weird that there are so many woman experiencing the same thing. They need to run some studies to determine if the magnetic field is the culprit or the contrast.

Hello, guest.

There can be a few different reasons why someone might experience vaginal bleeding after an MRI scan, but in general, there is not a direct connection between the two.

MRI scans use strong magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of the inside of the body. The scan itself does not involve any radiation, and is generally considered safe and non-invasive. However, there are a few ways that an MRI could potentially cause vaginal bleeding:

  1. Contrast Dye: In some cases, a contrast dye may be used during an MRI to enhance the images. This dye is typically injected into a vein, and can sometimes cause allergic reactions or other side effects, including vaginal bleeding.

  2. Pelvic Scans: If the MRI is focused on the pelvic region, there is a chance that it could detect abnormalities or conditions that could cause vaginal bleeding, such as fibroids, polyps, or cancer.

  3. Menstrual Cycle: Depending on the timing of the MRI, it could coincide with a woman's menstrual cycle. In some cases, the MRI may be able to detect abnormalities related to menstruation, such as endometriosis or uterine fibroids, which could cause vaginal bleeding.

It's also worth noting that vaginal bleeding after an MRI could be coincidental and not related to the scan at all.
