Ok, so I did it. Tonight was my 1st masters session. I was very nervous, after all I hadn't swam laps since I was in high school. I arrived early and spoke with the head of the swim club as to make sure that I could join in at my very remedial level. He was very encouraging and cautious at the same time, as it would not help their program if a man drown. I was tempted not to do it, but since I was already there and bought a swimsuit and all I might as well.

So I jump in for the warm 15-20 minute warm and not even halfway with my first 25M lap, I inhale a few gallons of water and almost drown. 8O I make it to the edge where the coach and a few friends just happen to be, and procede to purge the water I consumed. I can see that they are starting to second guess their decision to let me hop in and so was I. after I start to breath I hop back in and slow it down a little. This was a wise move, after a few laps I started to remember how this works.

We did a few drills, all for freestyle and swam a lot of laps. (there were 5 others besides me and they all swam a lot more than I did). I really didn't keep track of how much I did as I was too concerned with trying to breath air without water. I stuck it out and really enjoyed myself. it was a 1.5 hour session and I am very tired and will be very sore but I am also very proud of myself. I will definitely be back on Thursday for more.

Wow RB I'm so proud of you! That took alot of guts to do. Plus you actually enjoyed it. Sounds like a good start for you, keep it up. I'm staring to swim a bit again having been bitten by the tri bug I think too. I've been to a friends pond cuz I just ain't got the guts to go to the Y or anything. I can't even swim with my face in the water. Breathing air without water wouldn't even be an option I think for me.

Again, great job you! :coach:

A big fat

Great job jumping in...and not getting out after drinking the pool! Don't worry, we all start out that way.

Hang in there - you'll be cutting laps up in no time!
