From the male point of view, Howie needs to be VERY sure that you are well lubricated "wet" and ready. Do not be afraid to use additional lubrication as well.
Howie needs to go very slowly and allow you to adapt to his size. If he tries to rush things it's going to hurt.
He should also NOT expect to be able to go in "all the way." If he does he'll probably hit your cervix, more discomfort.
