I am inquiring about my neck discomfort. I've been having an unusal 'crackling' sound in what seems to be my neck when I turn my head. The only way I can describe it is that it sounds like saran wrap scrunching. It's not a painful feeling although when I stop suddenly in my tracks, it feels like my neck goes off kilter or jumps off track ... don't know exactly how to describe what this feels like.... just like my neck is 'loose' and not on tight... ???? It has been well over a month now. I can move it freely except when I have to look up for a long time. Then it feels like I have to support it with my hands so I don't feel the pulling pressure. Mostly what concerns me is the 'unusual crackling sound' it makes when I turn it. It's very strange. The only thing I can think of that could have possibly caused this discomfort is that I could have sprained it or possibly damaged it after hitting the top of my head on my car door frame.... I'm a tall woman and when I get into my car, sometimes don't get my head down low enough to miss the door frame at the top and BAM .. I hit my head ... It has happened other times before..but I've never experienced any long term effects or neck discomfort like this before. I know I must sound like a total clutz ... but it only seems to happen when I'm getting in or out of my SUV. Normally, I'm very sure footed. Has anyone else ever experienced these symptoms in thier neck ???

I hope that you have an answer by now. I just wanted to say that you don't sound like a clutz. :-) You need to treat yourself to a new, bigger car ! Seriously though, sometimes your type of accident can take time for symptoms to appear. The sound is not normal, as you know, and it could indicate some minor injury that might cause you bigger problems later on. You should have it checked and get answers, not just solutions for your symptoms. Your head and neck are critical areas and you want to protect your future quality of life. Let me know what you have learned. I hope that things are better now.

Try traction and a medical masseuse. Your SUV has obviously jammed your neck. Buy a convertible! This is in response to the neck feeling it "goes off kilter or jumps off track."
