Over the past month I have noticed lumps in my neck, likely swollen lymph nodes that have been increasing in number and size, I currently have 6 different swollen lymph nodes. I have a slight sore throat and no signs of a fever. No cold symptoms.
However, for the past week it has felt like someone is almost jabbing a knife in my neck. The pain is constant and almost unbearable. It is only on the left side of my neck and stretches from the lower part of my neck up to my ear. It hurts to swallow and it feels like something is stuck inside my throat on the left middle side. The inside of my mouth on the left side also feels very numb. I've been taking aleve to help reduce the pain, but the pain is still very strong and burdensome. I wake up frequently at night as a result of this pain.
I am 20 years old and when I went to the doctor they took x-rays of my chest and found that to be normal and also my blood work was normal except for testing positive for mono. However, I am not satisfied with this diagnosis, because I feel that I only have extremely strong neck pains, but no fever or other common symptoms of mono. I feel I'm likely in the early stages of mono and haven't felt the sickness affects yet. Is this possible?
Also, I've lost about 10 pounds (I only weigh 130lbs) over the past couple of months, have had trouble sleeping, and elevated stress levels. Hard to say what is related and what isn't. But I really want these neck pains to go away as they are extremely burdensome. Is this simply something that would be a result of mono and will go away in a couple weeks? Or should I go back to the doctor and have something else checked?
