Hi all, I'm in need of some advice, as I cannot contact my doctor or a health professional at the current moment. I am 18 years old and have been on birth control since August. I do not have a regular period, just random spotting whenever my uterine lining feels like coming out. I have been very good with taking it. I only missed twice. The first time was within the first month I started it and the second time was two weeks ago. I was struck with a weird stomach bug and vomited a short time after taking my pill, so I know it was not effective. The day after, I started bleeding. It resembled a period, enough to wear a pad but not all heavy. I had the stomach bug along with some cramping and symptoms but they all stopped by the Saturday of that week. Tuesday of the following week I had protected sex. Then last night, (Sunday) I had a sudden onset of cramping. There was some weird lumpy brown discharge. I'm not surprised at anything my menstrual cycle brings me anymore so I shrugged it off. But this morning I still have some cramping but the bleeding resembles implantation bleeding so I'm really concerned. I can't tell if I'm having cramps or am bothered by my interstitial cystitis, because whenever I used to have periods, the cystitis would flare up and it still does at times. But I really have no other symptoms other than that of a normal period, potential cramping and a minor headache. I really do not want to be pregnant, so any advice is great. I do plan to take a test just to be sure. Thank you very much.

First and foremost, I know how you feel about your periods. My uterus no longer surprises me, haha. My periods have always been weird until I actually went on birth control to fix them. So I naturally laughed at the comment, "..whenever my uterine lining feels like coming out."

Anyway, missing two pills is usually never that big of a concern. Even if you did miss those two pills, you used a back up method of birth control which was very smart, so kudos to you! I personally have no experience with interstitial cystitis so I don't know if that would cause any of the symptoms that you mentioned aside from the cramping because I do know it can cause that. I think you're fine and you're just having a weird period. Have you by chance had yourself checked out? I had something similar and it turned out that I had PCOS and would grow giant cysts on my ovaries that caused much of what you described. The birth control should be helping make your periods more regular considering it's not an actual period. It's a "withdrawal bleed" from the hormones.
