Hello!
I would like to have some info on orthognathic surgery. How long will I have to stay in hospital? Is there bid post operative discomfort? How long is orthodontics after surgery required?

Hey,
Orthognathic surgery is performed in the hospital and people usually have to stay there for 1 or 2 nights, depending on the extent of surgery done.
Most patients say after treatment that post operative discomfort is lesser then they excepted and most patients experience improvement in self confidence and quality of life after orthognathic surgery. The overall treatment varies in duration, form 6 (rarely less) to 10 or 12 months.
I hope this was helpful.

I was diagnosed with a severe case of rheumatoid arthritis years ago. It has affected the jaw joints on either side, with the right side being almost completely worn away. I was referred to a orthagnathic surgeon and was stunned to find out that although the operation itself was covered by basic medical, the pre and post consultation and x-rays would cost approximately $7,000.00. Why in the world is this considered cosmetic surgery? I can not function, eat, or speak properly.
Thank you,
