Me too - it also happens during sex. Intense pain!!!

I have this same problem. It has also occurred when I cough really hard or sneeze. It must be some sort of muscle pull that comes from straining too much. I have found that contracting all my muscles (like trying to make yourself red in the face) helps to alleviate the pain. Usually it lasts for an hour or two.

I have just recently come down with the excat same symptoms. They started last week after sex with my wife and have happened four times since every time I masturbate. It is extremely painful and matches the rhythm of my pulse. I guess I will stop for a couple of weeks and see what happens.

After reading about it there are several possibilities, one holding breath during climax or shallow breathing or over extertion, cramped neck position while beating it, blood pressure flow from body causing pain in neck, breaking a blood vessal from the shallow breathing or force, and there are others, but thats it..

idk putting pressure on the back of my neck stops it from throbbing.. and well i suppose stop beating it could work, holding your breath for a bit can alleviate the pain.

The person who submitted "Post Orgasmic Illness Syndrome", do not think this is a diagnosis or use this instead of seeing a Doctor. Yes it might be embarrassing but it might save your life. Be a pisser if they found you after masturbating or your lover had to crawl out from under you and deal with it. Don't also rule out your weight, lack of exercise, diet and general other health issues. I used to get killer headaches post climax when I was anemic when suffering from Crones'. When my blood got back to normal things got back to normal. Go see a Doc. A female Doc will be more understanding and less likely to make a face but if one doesn't work find another.

I had this issue about 2 months ago. It lasted about 1 month. What I did was I started exercising and started a low carb diet. I can't say for sure why it stopped but I haven't had it since about 1 week into the diet and exercise program. Now, 2 months later, I'm down 18lb, feel stronger and younger than I have in years and have zero pain during masterbation or sex.

Good luck guys. Oh...if anyone is thinking about doing low carb, I highly suggest logging on to

They have a great bulletin board section (a forum really) that has lots of helpful info on doing it right and sharing what works and doesn't work for people. (No...I have no afiliation with the site....just a member who finds it invaluable)

I am so glad I found this thread. My story is:

I was sakeboarding last weekend with some friends and took a nasty spill. Almost knocked me out. Gave me a huge cherry on my left cheek and some bruising. Naturally I wasn't up to masturbating the rest of that day, but the next day....
It's essentially the same as what I've read here. Intense throbbing pain on the upper left part of my neck / bottom left of the skull. I can get an erection and not have pain, but once I start masturbating and feel those pulses that signal the build up to the orgasm, my neck instantly begins throbbing. I've tried three times since my fall last week, and it's always the same result. The first time I didn't/couldn't finish and the neck-throbbing dissipated after an hour or so. The other times I sucked it up and climaxed. Mistake. The pain definitely peaks although with you, and takes a very long time to go away afterward (3+ hours). Before and after the throbbing goes away, I feel fine. I'm still a bit sore from the crash, but nothing like the pain I feel when I masturbate.

Obviously, my symptoms are related to my injury, as I had none beforehand, but I feel my posting this is still relevant. Of all the treatments suggested in this thread, I think cold-turkey is probably the best. I'm going to try to stop masturbating for a couple of weeks and see how that turns out. I eat pretty decent and I exercise regularly. The theory behind this is bettering your circulation and lowering your blood pressure, which may be very helpful for some.

I'll post back in a couple of weeks and let you know how it turns out.
Cheers.

I have been recieving the same problems. It usually stays at the base of my skull and develops into a head-ache. It is always the same no matter what position I have my neck in. But it is starting to get decreasingly painful after every time. It is probably just something natural. Perhaps too common of brain signals passing through those nerves. I do not think anyone should see the doctor because it gets better by itself over time. You may even consider taking tylonol or some pain lessener during m@sturbation if it is causing extreme problems. Good luck everyone!

Orgasmic cephalagia or thunderclap - u should do another search out on th eweb - lot of info on it - some comments say that it is caused by muscle tension in th back of neck (stop anticipating the end, relax and enjoy, and try a neck massage before hand) or due to electrolyte imbalance or dehydration - so drink some water, Gatorade or fruit juices. Google for more info or see a doctor and note if they want to do tests they wont pick up your problem if you dont exhibit it during the test when the machines are running.  Good luck and be healthy.

Wow, I though I was the only one who had this.
With me the pain stays for about an hour after I'm done.

I'm a 14 year old guy and I'll try to have some time without masturbating now... :P

Hi sweeties!!

This terrible pain after orgasm happened to me last year and today... Both happened in june, so I asked myself whats different about my lifestyle or masturbating in june?

First, june is the month I start kayaking in the river for the summer... Maybe there's something wrong with paddling for me or the head or back position. However I need to say that II am used to exercice... I consider myself to be healthy and I run and exercice all years long so maybe something with kayaking?

Then, june is the month when I start swimming in my pool... Yesterday, I went in the bottom of my pool a lot, which is very deep and my ears hurts when I go to the bottom... So maybe that?

So those are the two things I can think of... I don't think I ever hit my head... I masturbated a lot lately. I do sit when I masturbate. Also, I read somewhere that it might be related to sexual identity issues and that would be the case for me... I'm just confused and scared. Do people die from it? Does it have a name at all?

Anyway, for now I'll stop masturbating but I feel like its going to come back again in the future and it sucks. I don't think I have eaten anything different lately...

Oh! I almost forgot! The NASALCROM might be related like said in the first post... I used it a few weeks ago (I had a flu) and I remember using it at some point last summer (not sure if it was before I had the pain though). Those are the only two times I think I used that sh*t in my life. And I won't anymore.

Please let's find a cure because it is wrong and weird and PAINFUL (worst pain in my life)
