MY DOCTOR DID AN X-RAY-NOTHING SHOWED UP. SHE DID A CAT SCAN, AGAIN NOTHING. I AM GOING TO AN D.O. DOCTOR AND SEE IF I HAVE THE ALLIGNMENT PROBLEM, AS PREV POSTED. THANK GOD THAT I A DON'T HAVE ANY "MEDICAL PROBLEMS" THAT ARE VISIBLE. I GUESS I SHOULD BE GLAD.
I ALSO READ IN PREVENTION THAT STRESS CAN CAUSE THESE TYPES OF PAINS IN THE SIDE AND ABDOMEN.
STRESS IS THE SILENT KILLER, I KNOW.

I've been having pain under my rib cage on my left side since the summer. I first noticed it after I hurt my back. Someone mentioned it could be posture? Do you think this is the case? When I touch it to see if anything is out of place (sort of like poking around) it feels a bit squishy. Do you think its something other than posture?

I have had issues with my left rib since 12/06. I wouldn't call it painful...just uncomfortable. When I push on my lower rib I can feel it kind of pop and move around. My PCP is not concerned, but I'm tired of worrying about it. Do you think a visit to the Chiropractor would be beneficial?

I, too, have had some real trouble trying to figure out what this strange symptom could be. I do not think it is choctochondritis, for me, as it is firstly not pain I feel but pressure from under my ribs on that side, and it is almost always accompanied by a gay kind of breathlessness. My lungs feel as if I'm not getting enough air, even though they are free of phllegm and I'm not wheezing. It feels as if there is pressure below or between my lungs and just not enough room to breathe. To alleviate it, I have to bend over, grasp the skin over the lower left rib cage, and strech it outwards, to give me room to breathe again. The muscles there feel over tired, and the diaphragm, burning like you'd expect a muscle to burn during a long period of strenuous activity. Also accompanying this is pressure mid-chest, just below the pointed sternal bone where the two rib cages meet. In this area I feel my pulse pounding very hard, and a lot of pressure, fullness. You can actually SEE my abdomen hammer up and down with my pulse during one of these symptomatic periods. It makes me want to apply a lot of pressure and firmly stroke the area downwards from the sternum into the gut to relieve the pressure. I think it's more serious than chostochondritis, but xray and labs revealed nothing at the E.R. where, unfortunately, I was made to wait several hours and the 'attack' was over well before being seen. These usually last only a few hours, or a day at lower levels of discomfort. The other strange symptom that comes and goes but not necessarily with the rib pressure, is being unable to swallow solids, the food gets stuck either mid throat, or lower in the chest, and sits there until I drink an inordinate amount of water to wash it down. My throat will feel very swollen and even a small bite feels like I'm swallowing a brick. Someone suggested the rib pain was possibly pancreatic. Any ideas?

I too have been having very similar symptoms for the last 3 months. I am a 22 year old college student... and have been a little freaked out by the pain. It is mainly just under my left rib cage. At times I feel a vibration feeling there, as well as a heat sensation. There is a pretty constant dull pain. However today as I was doing the dishes I had this horrible pain shot though that area from the front into my back. It nearly took me to the floor. I have never experienced any pain like that in my life. I took a pain pill and the pain was gone most of the day, but now it is back. I am hoping that it is not anything serious, but maybe stress?? Any ideas for a college student who is to broke for a doctor visit??

Maybe It's something that you just ruled out for being to simple,
what i mean is that i have had the same exact feeling in two periods in my life, The first strarted as a pain in the lower left area below the rib cage which indicates to spline\bone\appendix\abdominal etc... mine turned out to be kidney stones (not to much fun when the stone moves, its like trying to deliver a baby threw your MAN genitals !) well at any rate got rid of that and then a few months later (which is still now) i have been feeling pain again,
after the suffering the incompetence of doctors in the age of internet (for i have more knowledge then they did operantly) i have concluded that my pain came from digestion problems :-) yep plain old GAS !
so i am not claiming or deminizing your pain or problem just sugesting maybe you looked so hard that you just skipped that little thing :-)
any rate there are pills and stuff for that and the pain goes away.
thats my story hope it helps cheers all

Hi there i too have had pain in my left side under the ribs towards my back.
It feels like sharp stabbing pains and sometimes can last from a few minuts to hours.I Havent been to the doctor yet but have been trying to monitor when i get them,it usually occurres when i have had fatty food or not enough water, which suggests that it could be gallstones.
it comes and goes and sometimes if i am stressed it comes on.

Hi I had all the same symptoms as you. I went to the dr. got an endoscopy and sonogram and learned that i had a hiatial hernia. It's a hernia that is in the dighragm and esophagus and makes it to where a little bit of your stomache pooches out into your esophagus. They say if you get to where you are having trouble swallowing you need to get in to the dr. so go to a gastro dr and see what they say. best of luck!

wow, you need to go be stupid somewhere else. your APPENDIX is on the right.
CJYoung, it sounds like you may possibly have an intermittent small bowel obstruction or spasm. I would see a doctor as quickly as possible.
