Lapro assisted hysterectomy 3 months ago. Since that time, have been able to have enjoyable sex but on a couple of occasions, it has been awful. There is excruciating pain, followed by extra spotting and lots of clear watery discharge. It doesn't end immediately after sex. Everything continues but decreases over the next few days after wards. One note is that this is usually accompanied by bowel problems. But, bowel problems, constipation and irregularity have always been an issue for me, but not the other pain, discharge and discomfort.

Anyone else dealt with this? Please tell me it's normal and will go away!

Hi Rosie! When you have a hysterectomy, IF you have any bowel problems you should tell your doctor - regardless if you had them before or not! Discharge and sometimes painful sex - unfortunately comes along with hysterectomys (and the "change") I take it from your moniker that you are 44, so this will mean you are into perimenopause! Which can cause painful intercourse. And if you ovaries were taken too, then this will also cause instant menopause = painful intercourse! Discharge is VERY common well into 6 months after - it is all the healing ! BUT I am concerned about the spotting, pain and bowl problems, so please ask for a check up! Just to make sure everything is OK? And also did you have endometeriosis?

Endometriosis on the tubes only. The ovaries were left, but you're right; they are shrinking already = peri-menopausal.

The pain is only after painful intercourse. Otherwise, I feel great and have for a long time. And, we have had non-painful intercourse. I was told the spotting could continue until about now. I was told there could be pain with intercourse. I was just weirded out because it was so much pain and the watery discharge increased so much after wards. But, it subsides within a day or two.

As far as the bowel problems, they're no different than before and my doctor was aware of it. Probably just poor diet really. I just realized that the painful intercourse seems to coincide with when I'm having the bowel issues. If that makes sense.

Actually it does, our rectums are on the other side of the vaginal wall, so thus problems for women giving birth to big babies! So if your colon is irritated so would your vaginal wall! Also when we are expecting our periods we can get watery stools or constipation and that seems to coincide with the differences within our vaginas! I AM concerned still about the watery discharge - this sounds kind of like a blister doesn't it? I know when I had my hysterectomy they didn't tell me about the discharge, so I was a bit upset about that! I think what is going on is that you are in the stages of perimenopause and when you have sex that is painful - thus irritated - it causes something like a blister, that will go away after a couple of days! When you have fully healed from this go into your local health store and ask for herbs for premenopause - i have many of my girlfriends on them right now - such as red clover etc. This REALLY helps with dryness etc. And in the mean time use a water based lubricant - becuase the scaring should be healed by now where your cervix was, so nothing will get into your pelvic cavity now! This is EXACTLY why God IS a MAN!!!! Menstruation, Menopause, etc. ;-) XD Good luck and health!

The watery discharge I'm having is very similar to something which would come from a blister....of course this blister would have to be about the size of my uterus to equal the amount of my discharge over time. It is quite a bit. This has happened twice and the first time the amount was more.

Thankfully it hasn't happened every time. However, I don't think the irritation is causing the watery discharge. Only because they seem to happen together. Unless the watery discharge is somehow released to help heal the area which is hurting.

Here's the thing...the pain I had during intercourse started as soon as we began foreplay. Does this sound at all familiar to you? Just to set your mind at ease, I am calling the doctor in the morning. I was just hoping to find someone who had experienced something similar or knew of it at least in the meantime.

Thanks so much for the advice so far Bambi. I can't believe I'm putting all these details on here! I guess anonymity allows us to be a little more open! :-P

Hi Rosie! OK You have to bare with me I seem a bit thick today! OK So you don't drip, you actually GUSH! Watery substance? IF so I think you are experiencing Female Ejaculation, you are just getting it confused with it happening while you are in pain! Due to the fact that there is no way of anything coming from your pelvice cavitiy - anymore - then it is coming from your vagina, which leaves either a blister or female ejaculation- which is pushed through the urethra from the Skenes Gland! Also in our vaginas we have Bartholin Glands which lubricate the vagina, but they don't produce that much fluid! So I think that is it!

Our vaginas are muscles, and when we have hysterectomys they go through trauma! So even though your incisions have healed, when you start being stimulated - through forplay - the muscles in your vagina and pelvis start tensing and releasing, which can cause you pain, from where the uterus was removed and the fallopian tubes! The only thing that concerns me with your case is the fact that you did indeed have enometerosis, and painful sex is one of the signs of this condition! Did your doctor mention to you wether or not he/she took a look around inside to see if the lining had attached to anywhere else?
