I'm a 25yr old male and I have a lump a little less than half way up the shaft of my penis on the left side. It has been there under the skin for a few weeks, it was small and hard but painless so I have ignored it. Yesterday it has become inflamed, its larger, red and sensitive (slightly painful) to the touch. I'm sure its not a pimple or ingrown hair, I don't shave and haven't noticed any hair sticking out of it. Because of its location i'm fairly sure its not cancer, and most info i've got on cysts says that they are grey, not red. I have however been under a lot of stress lately, and am getting over a case of shingles (likely brought out by the stress). Maybe a wart? What the hell is this thing??? Likely not an STD, i do have unprotected sex but only with 1 partner, and the lump is nearer the base than the tip. All the information i get on this differs from my case. Can anyone help?

Don't freak out, it's an infected hair follicle. I have the same thing myself and went to a Dermatologist who injected it with Cortisone to bring down the swelling. Unfortunately it didn't get rid of it so I had the option of going back to the Dermatologist and having it removed or soaking it with a hot towel (as hot as you can stand, but not enough to burn you!), and then let it cool and squeeze and hope it pops.
I will probably choose to do the latter, but if it get's larger after this process, which sometimes it does... I will have to go in for the minor surgery and let the Dermatologist cut it out.
I had one on my testicle which the Dermatologist cut out and never had a problem since. Just to get rid of this will be worth a tiny scar...
