Hi there,

My irregular periods started when i was 16 (i am almost 20 now), pretty much the day i turned 16. I had had my period for 4 years at that stage and they had come like clock work since the day it started.

After several visits to the doctor and hospital, and countless blood tests and ultra scans, no one was knew what was wrong which me. They put the blame on my weight, i was overweight, but not obsess. But my GP put me on the combined pill. This fixed the problem, and for two and a half years i was regular, but i put on a mass of weight.

Then i was told to stop taking the combined pill by the doctor at the Family Planning Centre because of the associated problems it could cause with my heart (i was born with major heat abnormalities - fixed now though!), even though my heart specialist was fine with me taking it. So last year i was put on the progesterone only pill. And within the first week of being on it i had my period, then two weeks later i had it again, and so on and so forth - which was very frustrating for my husband and i.

Returning to the FPC, the nurse advised that i take two pills a day and see what happens then, because my body might be metabolising them to quickly. This had no effect. So back i when! this time to the doctor. And she advised on taking three and day, high unorthodox she confessed but she couldn't think of much else to do.

So here i was taking three pills and day. I got hopeful when my period didn't arrive after two weeks, but it struck on the third week, then every two after that. After three months of take the three pills a day, i cut i down to two again because of the headaches and abnormally strong cramps i was getting.

The combined pill seems to be my answer, but an answer that i cannot take hold of. So it seems that i must resign to the fact that i will have this issue for many years to come.

Losing weight hasn't seemed to help much, and i put a lot of weight back on when changing between pills. But i will still work at losing the gained-back weight and the rest off.

Im not sure why i wrote this exactly, i wanted advise - but i haven't asked any questions in here. Let's just say that this is to let everyone know that there could be nothing wrong with you, it could just be what your body does, as it seems to be in my case.

If anyone wants to reply to this, feel free. Any advice, please give.

Love and Peace
