I would like to know if plaquenil is effective in treating lyme. Thanks in advance.

Hello. It is like that. Lyme bacteria lives in the cells of the nervous system and perhaps other cells. Plaquenil itself is an antibiotic and antibiotics itself do not seem (following some experiments) to do any good with treating lyme. But doctors found that cellular Ph (the degree of acidity) needs to be changed, meaning maximize or minimize the level of Ph, in order that antibiotic could work better. For example doxycycline seem to be working better when ph was higher. Following, adjustment of ph level can cause effective treatment of plaquenil with lyme disease. The problem with plaquenil is that it can cause irritation of the bowel.
