Hello: I had a complete thyroidectomy one year ago. FYI: I was advised by 3 surgeons that a partial was not a good idea because it would have left me with the possibility of having future problems. I had voice problems for several months, nothing severe however. I wasn't coughing. Could that just be from irritation? What does the doctor say. The cough is definitely worthy of mention to him/her. Six months was the time period that my surgeon gave in regards to how long it would take for things to feel almost perfectly normal, so it sounds like you're ok with your time frame. Just have the cough checked out. It is probably irritating the situation, which might prolong your recovery period. I know that things will improve. It sounds like most things, including the 5 min. hoarseness normal. Do ask questions about the cough. Please follow up with us....and let us know.
