Hi, I'm perry p. In 2010 I went through neck and throat cancer at stage 3. The entire experience was terrible.surgery went well but after going home, I experienced a bleed out and was air lifted and sent back.. during this time i experienced a life treating situation. At this time god stepped in and my body and soul came to peace. Treatments went well but the after effects were terrible. There were over 40 pound weight loss,no appetite ,no strength but I had a lot of friends and prayer. Things started getting better and I went back to work after a 9 month absense. Now here we are 2015 and 4 months being 5 years. I'm diagnosed stage 4 on the left side of my neck. I went through surgery, 33 radiation,7 chemo. The treatments went ok but not without loss of weight, appetite and pain. I had a feeding tube inserted in my stomach and have only lost 32 pounds. I'm still experiencing pain in the back of my throat, neck jaw and headaches. Swallowing is an issue and have a limit to how wide I can open my mouth. Radiation has deteriorated my teeth and I take pain medication at times for comfort. I finished treatments 41/2 months ago. My ct scan looked good except for a quarter sized raw place at the back of my throat that is struggling to heal. I don't know if this helps anyone but I believe in not keeping things all cooped insidea and God's grace.

So sorry for you having to go through this twice just seems unfair .your post has really put my mind at ease as my husband is 4 months out of treatment for tonsil cancer was doing great thought he turned a corner then all of a sudden the pain in his throat and ear and struggling to swallow .really does help knowing there are people out there who have been through the same thing and can share experiences to help each other and maybe put our minds a little bit at rest as this whole situation has been the worst time of our life .thank you and I hope you get well very soon xx

I experience ear pain the last 3 weeks of radiation therapy and the first week after treatment. My doctor said he had not heard of ear pain either. I just thought it must have come from being overly dry so I used sweet oil and put cotton balls to hold in moisture. It really helped me.

Good luck...Tomeika

This was me about 18 months ago. I'm so much better now, I can eat almost anything and I can deny too. I had stage 4a oral neck cancer and had a nose tube and then a stomach tube. Lost 80 pounds. In and out of the hospital due to throwing up all the time. That was 2 years ago... I'm cancer free and I'm enjoying my life again! Please know it gets better! It was hell on earth but hang on!
I still have some referred pain in my face and neck and esp my ear but it's much better!

I had tonsil and neck cancer which resulted in three operations, 30 sessions of radiotherapy and losing half of my teeth. I have also last around 35 lbs and taste buds are all over the shop. I suffer from neck cramps, dizzy spells and a very stiff neck. I also suffer from a very dry mouth and throat. What I can say is that it's getting easier or I'm just getting used to it...not to sure to be honest. Anyhow, I'm back in the gym weight training with heavy weights and running twice a week. My appetite is also so much better. You have to stay positive at all times. And by the way I'm 57 years old.

Dear Guest, I am sorry you have had to go through the cancer and then treatment and pain. Your experience could have been written by my husband. He finished 30 radiation treatments 8 weeks ago. His voice has somewhat come back but the pain in throat and ears has been unbearable and he coughs and gags on thick mucus. He is vey frustrated. I hope you are better. Maybe someone on here has an answer. No. I have not had cancer myself but my sister lost both breasts. My father had throat cancer. My friend died from ovarian cancer. My husband has had prostrate and skin cancer and now the vocal cord cancer. Cancer affects the whole family.

I was experiencing the same symptoms. It seems like the effects got worse after I completed my treatments. I lost over 60 lbs. I was force to get a feeding tube, which helps a lot. It seems like theses side effects are going to last forever, but I pray everyday that things get better.

I’m experiencing the exact same issues you have stated. It’s been 12 years since I had my radiation treatments. Were you able to find anything to give you some relief? Anything that you have tried that helped with the ear pain? Throat pain? The mucus saliva?
