Hello everyone, In the year 1999 ,I was diagnosed with T4 Laryngeal cancer , I am 52 now , I live with in PAIN, and now on 4/10/18 ,I am going to see if they are ABLE to remove my voice box (ASPIRATION) due to to much radiation 9400 rads 6 advance chemo's ,surgery may not be possible , Back then treatment was not as refined as today , my last chemo I went into cardiac arrest , my 1st HART ATTACK, chemo left me with ARTERY DISEASE ,due to PAIN and blockage 2009 for birthday 2nd hart attack, carotid arteries one occluded the other 60% again due to the amount of radiation they tell me surgery not possible ,.( DOES THAT MAKE ME TERMINAL ???)
I have the unbearable pain in ears ,jaw and throat and much much worst when swallowing ,aspiration is now to much to deal with, my teeth turned to choc within a few months of radiation, 3 stomach surgeries due to 2 stomach pegs, (THEY WILL NEVER PUT ANOTHER PEG IN ME) I still have acid refux (GRED) (cause of cancer) born with hiatal hernia . IN SHORT , I AM SUFFERING AND CAN GET NOTHING DONE (no pain management on medicaid SSI) ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** posting of private information such as name, phone number or email address is not allowed in order to protect your privacy*** Please read our Terms of Use

He’s just started to eat and drink again things like soup squash etc after he’s eaten something he gets ear ache which is quite uncomfortable. Any ideas on what causes this and is there anything that can help him, any suggestion welcomed

I am 3 years out of radiation and chemo for esophageal cancer close to my epiglottis. Doing okay but just lately real pain at swallowing and in my ear. Your experience at least gives me hope that I may last 11 years. I am 63. It is my understanding that a return of cancer would mean swollen lymph nodes, and I do not have that so . . . . I have hope.

Ditto to Karie and Sheila. My fiancé was diagnosed in January 18 with laryngeal cancer second stage Squam us cell for four months went to practitioner with sore throat was treated with Rocephin and steroids I made him have an upper G.I. I told him this was not a common sore throat he started in April 35 radiation treatments the pain has worsened since then extreme ear and throat pain I’m wondering if steroids would not help With the burn and inflammation

For 8 years drank about a tablespoon of Nyquil before bed to keep the throat wet at night & it worked sleeping all night long. About a year ago that quit working, so now drink an Aloe Gel to help with internal dry throat. I make near zero spit, so likely drink a gallon of water a day. I have the ear & neck muscle issues too, but had my thyroid cut out too, so have throat scar tissue from that slice & dice too.

Pain in the ear and throat after radiation therapy and surgery for cancer. Is that a usual cancer therapy side effect?

Hi Jim, I'm 59 and quit smoking 26 years ago. Stage 2 squamous tumor on back side of tongue had hemi-glossectomy ( half your tongue out) and had a flap. Didn't have feeding tube but wished I had many times. Lived on Boost for a bit.
I was inclined to write you when I read about your neck pain. I would not have pursued this if my sister who is a nurse strongly reccomended a lymphedma therapist. She helped me greatly. Not all therapist are certified in this and you have to seek them out. Hope this helps.

Yes, I had 30 treatments targeted to the left side and had similar symptoms. It's been three months now and eventually the saliva volume will decrease. It seems like it last forever when you're going thru it. I had a lot of success with a product called Healios, it heals you from the inside on a cellular level. I'm also now taking Juven which is supposed to have the same effects. I'm eating, painfully at times with the burning. Also drinking 2 oz of Aloe water. Have you tried magic mouthwash also? I've come to the conclusion that radiation therapy is simply barbaric and I can't believe there aren't other ways to isolate these cells. Good luck

Hi, I finished 30 treatments 3 months ago. I'm just now able to sleep through the nite. I really feel for you cause I said the same thing. Maybe you should consider a tube if you're losing so much weight. I didn't get one and I ate what I could, living on boost for a while too. I wish I could tell you it gets easier. But you probably knew that. No one knows what its like till you go through it. Pray and remember that time does pass and one day it will be a memory. God bless

Hello all. I have read many of your experiences and am compelled to share mine
I was diagnosed with stage 3 HPV induced throat cancer I had my 35 and last radiation on dec 31 2020 and 9th and last chemo on the 28th of dec I was advised to have feeding tube installed but since I was 258 lbs I was convinced a bit of weight loss would be ok I have lost exactly 50 lbs As many of you have said , even water was hard to swallow Now 3 months later I still have pain when I swallow and anything edible with spices or pepper feels like I swallowed a wasp nest , gums hurt, tongue hurts, and lips hurt. Docs won’t give me anymore pain meds, supposed to be referring me to pain management doc. Getting a pet scan next Monday. I feel as though my docs have just shoved me out the door and could care less about my problems. As they have offered me very little advice or real concern. (Fla Cancer specialists) one doc told me today I should not have pain. But still will not do anything for me. Says his hands are tied. I can’t imagine living like this for many more months , I can’t blame anyone for my cancer , but if I had it to do again I would have gotten another opinion. Fla cancer specialists claim on their marketing that they are a patient friendly environment and have down home caring. I say BS. Many times in there I felt like I was working for them rather than them helping me.
Oh well , I just wanted to get this off my chest I wish everyone the best of luck. Including myself.

I am 3 years out and unfortunately I am still having horrible pain in my throat all the way up to my ear. I had a tonsillectomy and five days later had a bleed that was insane. My lungs started filling up with blood and I filled up the sink and toilet several times. By the time I got to the hospital I had passed out and had a huge bowl of blood and clots that went everywhere in my vehicle. I then had a emergency cauterization as well as follow up dental work and extractions . I then started my 33 radiation treatments and had never really healed. I am now still in remission, but battle horrible pain on a every day basis. There is really nothing they can do other than pain meds. For all you out there who are now just going through treatments-my heart and prayers go out to you. It does get better over time, but it is still a constant battle with the pain. It is more like a crippling pain that goes away after a few minutes, but happens often. The good news though is that I am still alive to talk about it. I hope you all will be too. If I can help anybody with questions and answers then I am here for you. God Bless !
