At one week pregnant my wife had a CAT scan as part of a routine health check, the pregnancy was obviously unknown to her at the time. She underwent a CAT scan when she was one week pregnant. We went to see a gynocologist 2 days ago and he said that had the foetus been damaged then she would have mis-carried. We're waiting for a second opinion but the Doctor has said that as my wife is now 5 weeks pregnant and the baby is developing that the risks are minimal.
We have been told that when my wife had the scan the foetus was nothing more than a small number of cells and as such any damage caused by the radiation would have resulted in a miscarriage. As my wife is now 5 weeks preganant and the foetus is developing what are the potential health risks for the child and how likely is it that we could have a healthy baby? Are there any statistics or studies which could present us with a possible outcome?
I have a hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and my wife has recently been diagnosed with MS and so we are already incredibly worried about the health of the child wthout the possibility of any further health complications. I know there are no guarantees with any pregnancy but if anyone can offer some guidance on the issue we would be very grateful.

Hi Rob, I am guessing that if the fetus was able to make it through the CAT scan that it should progress normally but I think it's good to be vigilant the first three months to see that the fetus develops normally. If you're prone to any genetic diseases (as you are) It's a good idea to ask if they can test for them. I don't think they can test for what either of you has, but it's good to ask! How is your wife doing otherwise?
