In October of 2010, I was in an auto accident which left me with chronic back pain that I will have to deal with for the rest of my life.  I first started on Vicodin and that did little for my pain so my doctor then started me on Percocet.  When the epidural injections did very little for my pain, the doctor then decided to put me on Methadone...this has been the worst thing to ever happen to me!!  I have been on 30 mgs. of Methadone a day for a little over a year and when I found out that I was pregnant about a month ago, I wanted to wean off of it.  I was told my by o.b. that my baby would suffer from withdrawals and would have to stay in the hospital for an extra 2 weeks after being born.  Well, in the meantime, my insurance benefits changed and my Pain Doctor decided the day before my last appointment with him, that he would no longer see me anymore because of the insurance changes.  I had a total of 5 10mg. pills left and I was so afraid, so I began to break them up and take a quarter each day.  I cannot get in to see a new Pain Management Doctor for another 2 weeks and I only have 2 pills left and I feel like I am going to pull my hair out!  I can handle all of the withdrawal symptoms except for the restless legs!  This one brings me to tears all of the time...especially at night and there is nothing that any of my other doctors can do....they cannot prescribe Methadone because they don't have a Pain Management License, and they cannot give me anything to ease my symptoms either because I am pregnant!  What do I do?!?!  I know that it's only going to get worse and when the restless legs take over, it makes me want the Methadone again.  It's like I lose my ability to make clear and conscious decisions about anything!  All I want to do is stop these incredibly terrible and severe restless legs!  Does anyone have any suggestions for me?  And about how long will the real severe restless legs last?  I can deal with it when it was mild, but now it's far beyond what I have ever experienced before!  This pregnancy was a big surprise and now I feel that I have bitten off more than I can chew.  I will do whatever it takes to ensure a healthy baby, but how do I ease these symptoms?  I have tried so much that just does not work for me!  I eat a lot of bananas, potatoes, dark green veggies, whole grain foods, etc., I try soaking in a nice warm bath before bed, I have tried taking Benedryl but that only makes it worse, and I try moving my legs as much as my back pain will allow me too....all with no avail.  I am seriously going crazy!  Please, if anyone can help me, I am desperate!!

Not sure what state you are in but its ILLEGAL for any doctor to take you off of methadone while you are pregnant. Is he aware of the pregnancy? If not, make him aware.
