Hi guys. I was wondering, does any of you taking a thiazide diuretics for your the lower pressure? I have low blood pressure for a while, but it became really bad in the last three months. So, I was not able to raise my blood pressure with the foods, and that is why I have decided to visit my doctor. He prescribed this diuretic for me, but I noticed that I have a problem with constant lightheadedness and that is what worries me the most. Is this just an ordinary side - effect that will go away or something different? What to do?

A constant lightheadedness is one of the most common side - effect of every medication that you are using for your blood presser. There is no exception with Thaizide as well. If I am not wrong, low sodium is causing it. Also, a dizziness can happen, and it is very often. Observe what is going on with you, if this continuous, you should go to your doctor and ask him to do some other tests, to see is this because of this medication that you are taking. If the medication is the main culprit, you should see to start taking some other pills. Consult your doctor and don't you ever stop taking some pills on your own hand.

That happens because diuretics such is thiazide is affecting blood potassium levels and I am pretty much sure that your doctor mentioned this to you while he was prescribing this diuretic to you. So, I never used Thiazide, and I have a high blood pressure, but I was reading something about this, which makes sense. Don't hesitate to contact your doctor as soon as you see that this won't go away. Maybe he can find a reason why maybe he can find some substitute for this. Maybe this is just a phase that it will go away, but you should be aware that you should never play with high blood pressure.

Nothing weird since we do know that any type of diuretics can also affect blood potassium levels. It can lead to lightheadedness. I know a couple of people who had this and it happens because your body is trying to adjust to the certain medication, and that is one of the most common side - effect. Also, I wanted to ask you - do you have a loss of appetite, because all those diuretics may reflect as loss of appetite, itching, blurred vision, headache, stomach upset and weakness. Lightheadedness is possible just at the beginning if this lasts more than 10 to 15 days, it is a sign that there is something wrong.

Yes, you should wait to see how those changes will affect you. Maybe it will be better, but you have to also be prepared that maybe you won't see any type of changes. Anyway, using thiazide diuretic for a lot of people is a really nasty experience. I know a couple of my friends who were using it and all of them had that lightheadedness until they were totally used to it. It is a process that everyone, it seems, has to go through. It is hard to consult someone what is the best, but you should definitely follow your doctor instructions, no matter what.

It is different for everyone. There are no rules, you might have side - effects, you may be without them. It depends. Generally, potassium is a mineral that plays a key role in controlling blood pressure, as well as nerve and muscle function, and as you already know, your kidneys help regulate potassium levels in your blood. This is why all of those things happen, your body is trying to adapt several stipulations. Also, don't avoid meals. Drink water. Exercise or walk regularly. Don't use a computer and don't watch the television if you really don't have to. Those all are the things that can help.
