I am 18 years old and have only very recently gotten into this whole self masturbation thing (this last week to be exact). In the past I used streams of water, and while that was enjoyable I wanted to quit it because I thought it too vulgarish and was really self concious about it. I'm not sure why I suddenly wanted to finger myself, but I did and did some research before starting. Looked up diagrams and articles/sites like this that gave advice.
I am very shy about sex, and this is way out of my comfort zone. I want to orgasm, but I don't know if I can achieve it by myself. Then again I'm afraid to because if it is so blissfull, won't I cry out? I'd wake up everyone in my dorm. When I try stimulating my g-spot, I do get a warm feeling down there but it takes a while or I just don't feel much of anything. When I don't feel anything, I think my fingers are too short, but know that isn't it. Do I constantly have to stimulate it to orgasm? I do get a lot of satisfaction from my clit, and might have to stick to it untill I'm more at ease with myself. I would like to try lube, but I don't want the cashier to judge me. I've heard vasilline is a good substitute?
I'd ask my friends, but I'm just too embarassed about it. I'm the type of girl who never talks in class, unless called on, and usually keep to myself. My friends do know the "wilder" side of me, but when I lent them one of my books to read, they were surprised to find that I was into "racy" books (it was about werewolves, vampires, other shape-shifters and moon-heat). I like to read sex scenes but would really rather not watch them.
Anyways, I guess I need tips to help myself relax and enjoy myself.

awh yeah ... its masturbating is quite healthy .. it looses tension and stuff .. if fingering dont work you can use a sex toy ... which u can buy onlien cheaply .. some teenagers use house holds , but u should not use glass , sharp edge things ... some use cucumbers , but be sure it put a condom on it ... about the lubricant it is better to use a actual lubricant then veessline and olive oil .. take it easy and gently ...

What type of lubricant should I think of buying? Something that hightens sensations or a more basic one?
Are my legs and lower belly supposed to quiver/shake when I near my climax or is it that the area is filling up with more blood and is therefore more sesitive? Do I keep doing what I'm doing or move away from that area but keep stimulating it?

I'm the guest that started this discussion thing. I didn't have an account on this site when I first wrote it, so it dubbed me as
a guest, just to clear up any confusion.

I'm having trouble replying to specific posts for some reason, but I'll try to address them here.

I will be the first to admit that I am not very experienced (at all) regarding this. I don't think it will be a problem, though (or at least, I have not heard of people having this problem).

Vaseline (or petroleum jelly) might work, but I would not recommend it. For one thing, it causes condoms to break (and tends to dissolve other rubbery substances, or so I have heard). Don't worry about being judged by the cashiers, I don't think they even look at what they're scanning (if you're concerned, buy it with some other stuff at a time when they're busy. Even better, if you have a store with self-checkout machines, use those).

Something basic is probably best. Anything water-based should work (regular Astroglide is commonly available).

Keep doing it if it feels good. Some quivering is probably normal :)
Sorry, I don't have much to help here. Just do whatever feels best.

Any specific recommendations (or authors)? :-|

Don't use Vaseline or any oil based lub as they will give you a yeast infection, you should use a water based lub.

The book that I read then let my friends borrow is called "Full Moon Rising" and is by Keri Arthur. It's the first book of a series, or that's what I've gathered just by reading it. That or it is supposed to be a cliffhanger...which I really hope not, it's a good book and seems like it'd be a good series. It has quite a few sex scenes and is also an adventure book.

To update my self:
I figured out how to orgasm a week or so after I started masturbating. I didn't cry out, except within my own head.
